I just received a mailing from Princess cruises, highlighting cruise bargains for August through September in the Mediterranean..$699 per person for 7 days, airfare not included, and some ship credit for paying the tips!  Wow!  Call your travel agent if you are interested.  You would need about a $4000 budget to do this.  I have sailed on the Emerald Princess, and she is gorgeous!

Probably a bit more than $4000 if you want to do excursions!  That's the thing with European ocean cruises.....the excursions are generally not cheap.  For example, the cheapest group excursion in Florence is $85 with most between $140-$240/person.  x2 and those excursions will really add up.

Sure, you might be able to find transportation and do things yourself or find a local guide, but that comes with risks.

I have been on the Emerald Princess though....it was a really nice ship!

If you are interested, the fare for repeat customers on Princess is as low as $499!

Tempting, but  when we do get to the Mediterranean, we want to spend it on land.

Exactly!  After our cruise, we spent a week in Rome.  Since we were already there, why not?
