Holiday Weekend FRIDAY!

Apologies if someone's posting the weekend thread at the same time - I promise I checked for one!

SO happy the weekend is here. This week has gone by so slowly. Have a half day today to go to a wedding this afternoon, that I'm super excited about - it's two of my friends from totally different circles who met at my Halloween party a few years ago and hit it off! Couldn't be happier for them. That lead to a super terrible morning though, trying to run around the house like a crazy person to get all my stuff together with preg emotions running high was not a great idea. (Wedding is over an hour from my house but near my work, so I'm getting ready at my MIL's house.)

My mom is coming to see the new house tomorrow, and we're picking up some new-to-us furniture - Craigslist china hutches and a barely-used bed from H's grandpa. Hopefully working on the baby registry Sunday! NO PLANS on Monday which I'm pretty happy about. Mama needs SLEEP.

So YAY FRIDAY! What are your exciting plans?

Re: Holiday Weekend FRIDAY!

  • FI and I are headed upstate NY to see his brother and SIL and just VEG OUT this weekend.  There will be hiking, and boating, and dinners out, and drinks- and I just can't wait.

Happy Memorial Day weekend, knotties :)
  • DH will be at a bachelor party all weekend, so I'm on my own. I'm sensing a whole lot of lounging about. I should really put some more wedding stuff away, but y'know, that's like really tough. I did get some photos from my MIL, just some photos she took, so I may put those into frames. But other than that... I'm pretty much low key this weekend.

Having trouble concentrating at work today, probably won't make it the whole day

Wedding is in one week!  This weekend we are running a race tomorrow, then going out on a boat with friends.  Rest of the weekend will be final wedding prep, getting the house in order, chilling, etc.  I really want to go outlet shopping but it is kind of far away so not sure that will happen.

Indy 500 is Sunday so I think that will either be outlet day or go do something since lots of people will be at the race. in years past we've gone with friends on the boat for the race but our plans with them are Sat this year for some reason

Edit: oh yea and I seem to have caught a cold a couple days ago.  better now than a week from now but I hope it goes away before the wedding.

  • Fiance and I are shooting my cousin's newborn's portraits on Saturday, which I am very excited about, and then maybe a picnic with deviled eggs and fried chicken and ribbon sandwiches in Prospect Park on Sunday!
First I have to get through this very slow half day in my mostly empty office....

    Happy Holiday Weekend all!

  • I'm so happy it's almost the weekend! This week has been absolutely awful and I'm so glad it's over.

Tonight H is going camping with a couple of his friends and I get the house to myself. It's barely getting to 60 degrees today so he's going to freeze his butt tonight while I sleep in my nice, warm bed with the pup.

Tomorrow we're going to go mattress shopping. The quote for new gutters on our house came in way under what we had budgeted for so we're going to treat ourselves to a new bed now. Sears is having a huge mattress sale so I'm excited that we'll be able to get a really nice bed that might've been out of our reach normally.

Sunday we're going to the Otesaga in Cooperstown for the night. H's birthday is on Monday so this is his present. We're going to check out the Ommegang brewery and there's also a distillery down there. I'm so excited for our little night away - this hotel is breathtakingly gorgeous. We'll come back late in the afternoon on Monday and probably just hang out with the dog for the rest of the night.
  • Finally!

Tonight is a do-nothing night!   I may make a cake but other than that, it's home with the fam.  I need to work on getting the baby to sleep in his crib so that may be my mom task.

Tomorrow we're either having lunch or dinner with MIL and FIL at their place at a campground.   They own the park model and it has a sunporch and deck on it (that's seriously my kind of camping) and DD may go on the splash pad.   The weather is looking great!

Sunday and Monday we have NO PLANS.   The shore traffic and summer start are going to make my town and the local area EXPLODE with people.   I think there's a glass of cold white wine and a hot lobster roll in my future.
  • Half day at work today.  When I heard, FH requested the day off.  We're leaving around lunch time to drive from Chicago to Denver.  We're going to geocache our way across the Midwest.  Then we're going to drink a lot of beer in Denver with my cousins.  We'll take day trips to see pretty things (and geocache), then we'll drink beer at night.  Won't start heading back until NEXT Saturday.  Yay for the start of vacations!!!
  • This week has been so mentally draining, even though it was a 4 day week here! So glad it's Friday. We have some friends staying with us this weekend so I need to clean a bunch tonight. Should be a good time, I love houseguests!

Hopefully the weather will be good so we can all sit on our new patio (well, balcony) furniture.

  • I am heading to New Buffalo, Michigan for a Bachelorette party for my BFF! We are leaving tonight and coming back Monday, at which point I think FI and I will be going to see Poltergeist.

I read a book last year and they talked about ribbon sandwiches!! What exactly are those?

  • We usually go to our lake house but DH is abroad on business and doesn't get back til Saturday night. We have zero plans. It feels weird.

I bought some plants to create a shade garden on the side of our house, so I'll probably work on that.

I'm also in full on nesting mode so trying to clean, organize, and close out leftover projects.

I'm stalking @blabla89's PSA thread to take advantage of any baby deals and get some of the big items taken care of.

  • @southernbelle0915 have you looked at local yard sale/swap groups? MIL bought a ton of stuff for SIL's babies that way and it was all really nice stuff in good condition.

You probably already know this, but just in case - stay away from cribs and car seats at yard sales in case of recalls or car accidents you don't know about. :)

They're the best for things like ride on toys and jumperoos though.

Yes! I got the Baby Bargains book (highly recommend) and there are a few items that they say to definitely buy new. We're sticking to that to be safe. I really want the BOB Revolution stroller, so I'd love to find one that someone bought and just decided they didn't like for whatever reason!

  • DH is going to his parents' lake house and meeting up with them and his siblings and their families.

I am staying here, because this is my least favorite weekend of the year work-wise (next week is my least favorite week), and there's no getting out of Sunday or Monday. I was worried that I was going to have to go in to work today (usually Friday and Saturday are my "weekend" days off) but everything is under control right now, so I'm not.

I think some good relaxing might be possible. I'd much rather go to the lake and hang out with the nieces/nephew (oldest one just turned 4), but time by myself at home is good too.

Yep. When SIL was pregnant MIL had nothing better to do than research this stuff all day.

I'm going to ask MIL if she can help me find a deal on one of these baby carriers so that I can carry my little old man dog on my back while we hike with DH's giant dog.

  • Work is letting us out at noon so I'll be treating myself to sushi/mai tai lunch and a manicure. Dinner date with FI tonight, friend's housewarming cookout tomorrow, beach sunday, and grad party on Monday. It's also my sweet pup's 3rd birthday so we'll have to cook her up a piece of bacon or something. Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend!!

  • Today is not the best for me. I started my period last night and day 1 is always the worst, terrible cramping and I'm exhausted.

I have to work late tonight and my assistant called out today.

The rest of the weekend I have absolutely nothing planned! DH and I will work around the house and grill out. Probably hang out with some friends here and there.

Not a ton of plans, because IT'S STILL FUCKING RAINING.  It's seriously been raining here for a month.  It's Colorado, it's supposed to be sunny a lot.

I'm also still waiting on the job offer... really hoping it comes in before the end of the day today.

Sunday is my birthday.  My plan is to do nothing, maybe lay in bed and watch movies.  FI is going to make dinner, so we'll see what he comes up with.  Since he never cooks I'd be happy with hot dogs or something.  My other present was he was going to take my car to get detailed, but since it's STILL raining, that will probably have to wait.

  • TGIF!!! No plans for tonight. Tomorrow we head out to our friend's family's lake house. We'll stay the night and come home sometime Sunday afternoon. No plans yet for Monday. I'm just so pumped about this weekend - of the next 7 weekends, 5 will be long weekends for me (2 holidays, a wedding, visits to both sets of parents) so I'm looking at a nice little stretch here.
  • This week has been pretty rough. My FI's company is still struggling due to the current economy, and yesterday they did more layoffs and 're-arrangements'. At our base, there are two Captains (FI is one) and a First Officer. Yesterday they phoned the other Captain and told him that due to 'economy' that in order for them to keep him employed they have decided to demote him to FO (which is about at 15K paycut) and re-locate him to another base. FI gets to keep his position here as he has seniority, but now due to all these layoffs and rearrangements, FI has found himself at the bottom of seniority list. Meaning, everyone that was below him has been laid off. Everyone. So if they need to do anymore, FI's name will be the first one pulled as they always go in order of seniority.

And they aren't planning on moving anyone up here, so that means FI's schedule of 10 on, 4 off will change to 5 and 2. Which means suddenly all his scheduled vacation doesn't line up with days off.

Gah. I am so freaking stressed out. Our current mantra is 'at least we still have a job, at least we didn't get a paycut' and repeat as neccessary.

  • This has been a really miserable week for me. I'm glad it's just about over.

Tonight: Getting straight into bed as soon as I get home, and then watching TV and eating popcorn

Saturday: Cleaning the house, running errands, maybe taking the boat out

    Sunday: My friend's wedding

    Monday: No plans
  • My BFF is coming to stay with me for the whole weekend.... I'm not thrilled because I'm a person who needs my down time.  Plus I wasn't exactly asked, and it's FI's Saturday off.

Tomorrow we're having a sort of impromptu yard sale which I have not prepared for at all except deciding that the piles I was going to donate will go to the yard sale first.  Tonight I'm going to get my summer clothes out of the attic and see what can go!

Sunday BFF thinks I'm going to run all over town shopping for the birthday party she is throwing herself next week, but hopefully that will not be the case as I have a bunch of work to finish.  We will also try to decide what she is wearing to be my MOH in 36 days!

Monday a coworker is having a BBQ that I just heard about, so maybe I will try to go out there for a bit, but we'll see.  Hopefully BFF will leave early-ish and I can have some alone time!

I AM SO EXCITED. I'm going to buy two books for my nook (the first time I've bought books I've been wanting, instead of "ooh-that-looks-good" books) and a bunch of sunscreen. The only way it could be better was if FI could have gotten off. But... he couldn't. There's a wedding tomorrow night, and their Memorial Day Brunch Sunday.

I WILL BE KIDNAPPING HIM FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY THOUGH.
