How was your weekend?

How was everyone's weekend?

I got a few things done, but I do not feel productive at all.  I had two things on my to do list - plant my garden, sand the deck.  Neither got done.

I did however get a great start on decluttering my dining room.
I cleaned the kitchen spotless Saturday, but then I made banana bread and that all went away.  It was worth it.
The rest was being consumed with Netflix.

Re: How was your weekend?

  • Other than the Blackhawks' defeat, not bad.

Tried on my wedding dress for the first time and other than some hemming and covering up some of the major cleavage action I had going on, I don't think my seamstress will have much to do!

Got to see AP win the Triple Crown and had a kick ass "Door County" chicken salad sandwich on Saturday.

Yesterday I took a 3 hour nap and still went to bed on time and didn't lay awake.

    It was a good weekend.
  • I work on weekends for now. Can't wait until that's over; I put in notice and my last day of work will be the 21st! I just want to brunch!!!

I did some wedding stuff in my off time and went to a baby shower for a coworker. I've never been to a shower where they don't open gifts though; seemed kind of strange to have a huge pile in the corner and just kept playing games the whole time.
  • Friday night I ended up going out with some friends from work. We checked out an art gallery and grabbed a drink. It was fun!

FI had to work Saturday and Sunday mornings, from about 4 am until a little after noon. So Saturday morning I slept in until 11. It was glorious. Then after FI came home we binged watched Malcolm in the Middle and did pretty much nothing else except when we went out to get dinner. We started watching Face Off because he was shocked I'd never seen it, but since he'd been up so early he pooped out halfway through.

Sunday we were due to go visit his family in Tampa for our monthly get-together, but I was worried we weren't going to make it because his work vehicle got a flat tire about an hour from our house. Luckily he made it back in time for us to leave, which was good because his brother turned out to be there for the first time in months, so he might have missed the chance to see him (he's in California serving with the Marines). We had a good time.

I'm already ready for this week to be over. Both my opening tutors are sick so we have to delay opening. I have a few people coming in early though.

  • I feel like I got a lot done. I got the house clean and all the laundry completely done. DH mowed the yard and got it looking nice. I made some strawberry icecream Saturday night and it was delicious!

  • I'm still recovering from working Saturday night's wedding.    I didn't get home until 2am and I woke up 4:52am.  I was able to doze off a few more times, but was up for good by 7am.   Never took a nap either.  I was kind of miserable yesterday.     Although I did grill an amazing turkey tenderloin yesterday for dinner.  I was pretty proud of myself.   Too bad I was the only one around to eat it.

Saturday's wedding was interesting.   5:30 ceremony.  6-7:50pm cocktail hour.   Now that is a long cocktail hour and these people were POUNDING drinks.  IMO, they didn't order enough apps either.  (apps are per piece and they ordered under the recommendation.)

Well the cocktail hour was delayed by 20 mins.   Great, just what these people need and longer cocktail hour.     BTW - everything was on property, I'm not sure the reason for the delay.

They finally got seated for dinner and and were served their salads (watermelon something, with pop-rocks).  Then they started their speeches.  Those lasted another 25 minutes or so.   So dinner entrees didn't go out until almost 9pm.

Cake cutting? Cake cutting was just past 11pm.  Which is when the band ended because it was an outside wedding and there are noise ordinances.  The party ended at 11:30.  Oh and they had late night food at 10:30pm.

  • Wow @lyndausvi!   I feel old  - by 11:30 I've attempted sleep for an hour.

Our weekend was nice.   We had friends over on Saturday and we haven't seen them since before I was pregnant with DS.   It was great to catch up, grill and eat outside and do something low key.   Saturday night the baby was up 4 times and I enjoyed an hour nap yesterday.

I am optimistic that at some point in the next two weeks DH will use weekend time to patch the hole in the ceiling of our family room.  Last weekend was a game called, "Let's fix the 49 year old copper pipe that rusted through so we can use the upstairs toilet again".   That fun game required DH to cut a hole in the ceiling and spend just about all his spare time on Saturday and Sunday piecing PVC together to make it work.   I am lucky to be married to someone with a sense of how to do this though.
  • My best friend was in town for a quick visit and it was beautiful outside this weekend.  I miss seeing her all the time.  And my Dad was motoring around yesterday on his crutches, and he's coming home today, so yay!!

  • I'm at the breaking point with this wedding nonsense!  We went up to FI's parents this weekend for my shower and hair trial.  FMIL asked two people to be ushers when she was specifically told not to - and bought them matching ties in the wedding colors.  I was also informed that the two girls I told her would NOT be in the wedding got their matching outfits as well.  Since Friday she has added 5 people to the guest list.

The hair stylist was just not very good, so I never got to see how my hair will be because she got it completely wrong the first time and we were out of time.

The shower was very nice, and I met a bunch of FI's relatives for the first time.  Only 1 person from FI's family bought from the registry, so I got a bunch of random gifts.  Some were thoughtful, but some the givers made a big deal about telling the room they were re-gifted.  FMIL is a dental hygienist and gave me a sample electric toothbrush from her supply closet!  And this pewter serving dish was an interesting choice from someone who has never met me.

    image

You really just have to laugh at this point.  Last night she called me to make sure it was ok that she told her sister's daughter-in-law's mother that she could come to the wedding.  Really??

My mom was like "WTF? This is a wedding, not a circus!"

    I said "I DISAGREE!!!"

I'm normally in bed by 11:30, but will stay up later for something like a wedding.

The 11pm cake cutting was just weird.    Especially when the late night foods were already out.  So they had cocktail hour food, salads, dinner, late night food then desert.    That's just wrong.

I actually really like that.   My dad loves to make shrimp cocktail and that would be perfect for it.   He has a Lenox dish especially for his creations with sinus-clearing cocktail sauce.
  • I got the majority of the curtains up.  There was only one I still need to do in the kitchen.  I feel so much better only having one more curtain rod to put up!

Banana, I can also feel your pain on the ceiling.  We discovered a leak in our bathtub that leaked water down into our kitchen.  So Saturday H decided to pull off all the bad dry wall and attempt to find the leak.  Good news is that we figured out where the leak was coming from, but the bad news is that we have a huge hole in our kitchen ceiling that's sorta in the shape of a penis.

On Sunday, we went to BIL's house for dinner.  It was delicious!

I also finalized the plans for H's birthday next month.  Now I just need to get his present.  I had boudoir photos taken back on May 1st.  I got my online preview a few days later.  Once I gave them the prints I wanted, I was supposed to have my edited images back in 72 hours.  I am still waiting on them.  I have sent a few emails and will be calling if I don't hear anything by tomorrow.  I still need to order the photo book, so I need to do that soon so it arrives on time.

  • @banana468 I don't mind it, although it's not anything I needed!  It's funny that the wedding is a sort of seashell theme because it's a clambake, but she had no idea!

  • We were surprisingly productive this weekend. Friday night we went and saw Furious 7. Man I cried at the end.

Saturday we got up and out early and went to Ikea. We actually managed to arrive like 5 minutes before they opened. We picked up a few house organization things and I picked out some furniture for later. Mostly bookshelves. Pretty, pretty bookshelves. Then we put our stuff together and just hung out at the house unpacking. My parents, sisters, and their offspring stopped by for a bit in the evening.

Yesterday I did a ton of decluttering in my closet and bit the bullet on donating a bunch of clothes I'd been holding onto. And then made another box of clothes I'm still holding onto. Because I'm a terrible packrat like that. In the evening I had a band concert that went pretty well and we had a good sized crowd.

  • My weekend was pretty great although exhausting!!

Our joint bach/bachelorette was on friday and we had a BLAST!! First we met up at Sr. Frogs for a few hours to drink and play games and stuff and then we went to a strip club. It was an epic night!

Then on Saturday it was Fi's nephew's Bday so I went to that and it was lots of fun as well then yesterday we had our Pre-Cana course for the wedding which took all day and then we started packing for the HM!

Oh and we finally got our engagement pics back!

  • Sounds like everyone had great weekends!

I drove to my home state last Wednesday so I took an extended weekend. The weather was BEAUTIFUL and I took two of the girls that are in the wedding up to the lodge where the wedding will take place. I hadn't been up there since I was about 12yrs old, so I kind of booked sight unseen when it came to the venue spaces (when you are 12 you aren't looking around thinking wedding). We got to go through the ceremony and reception space, taste the house wines, and then we went up to the bar to enjoy fondue and a beer while looking out on the beautiful mountain. It made me more excited for the wedding, the lodge is stunning and perfect for us!

Also did tai chi with my mom, and really liked it.

Got back from our honeymoon early evening on Sunday.  Not feeling too great so working from home today.  The house is a disaster from stuff that was a mess before the wedding, stuff we brought home after the wedding and now having to unpack, etc. Probably should have just taken the day off because I need to do so much around here but I'm trying to unearth from the work buildup from being gone.
  • FI and I flew out of town for a wedding. It was a whirlwind weekend (caught the 5am flight out saturday night, and the 8pm flight home sunday). But the weather was beautiful, got to see some long lost family, got some nephew snuggles in, got to put my toes in the ocean. Im really tired today and run down but over all it was pretty worth it... except for the fact that I am convinced it was actually a PPD....

Oh ALSO - My cousin got engaged this weekend!

I had heard that he was planning to wait until after my wedding, but his fiancée texted me on Friday with the news - but I haven't really heard it from anyone else... so is it a secret??  Is it just because he's a guy and my family isn't as excited or do they not know or has he been overshadowed by my approaching wedding craziness?  My aunt (it's her son) definitely knew at my shower but didn't want to discuss it because she said it was "my day" (it was the shower with FI's family, who have never met my cousin, so double who cares!).

He and the fiancée are away at the beach, so maybe they are waiting until they get home.  But I want to talk about it, darn it!! lol

  • My cousin called to tell me that she's pregnant ("you're going to be a big cousin!"), so that was awesome.

Aaaaand we decided that I was going to resign in September.  It took me a while to grow enough of a backbone to decide that yes, I am allowed to leave a job that makes me cry before each shift.  Now I just have to get through the meeting with my supervisor tomorrow, for whom I have a whole LOT of respect.  I hate having people disappointed in me.

BUT! This is the weekend we have a whirlwind trip to Montreal to see U2.  So all in all, pretty good.

  • These are always fun to read!

My 10k was cancelled due to lightning! It started raining exactly at race start time and they announced that if it started lightning, they'd divert people back to the main area. I got 3 miles in and that's what happened. Oh well. Sometimes a race just isn't in the cards.

We had a huge work event earlier in the weekend too, so all week long people who work remotely were flying in. I got to meet a lot of people in person for the first time, spend time with some of my favorite people and.... drink. A lot. My coworkers can party. I'm still really tired from lack of sleep.

  • This weekend was so nice, it was finally a relatively free weekend.  We saw Insidious 3 (we are total paranormal movie junkies) on Friday.  On Saturday the Globe theater here put on a thing about how their actors work through Shakespearean language to figure out how they should act or express dialogue.  It was really interesting, and really made me want to watch Shakespeare, the Tudors, or something related.  Then we got our wedding bands!  FI was pretty sure he wasn't going to like any rings, but he found a really great one he's excited about.  Sunday I played video games in bed and then we met up with some friends to watch the NBA game.

Oh, also our condo-wide fire alarm went off in the middle of the night.  It has a habit of doing that when there is no fire and I'm completely asleep.

  • So funny story.

For the last week a coworker and I have been joking that we think another coworker is secretly living at the office. We've noticed a huge increase in coffee consumption, he is around at really random times (he's a field crew worker so shouldnt really be around the office that much). He's at work sometimes an hour before his call time. And he shows up at work on days that he is off, to 'work on his bike'.

Last week my boss came in to work super early before a business trip and noticed that the alarm was not set. He figured someone just forgot before they left the night before, but then kept hearing weird noises and was thoroughly creeped out.

Our cleaning lady apparently called this morning. She was in cleaning the office at like 8pm one day last week. And this guy was there. Sitting in the back shop reading a book. So she wanted to talk to our boss about it, because it made her feel really uncomfortable to be cleaning the office with this random guy just hanging out there.

This morning my coworker went out to the back lot to grab an odometer reading off a crew truck and she saw this guys van parked out back. With a mattress in it. and it was plugged in to the winter outlets.

That's crazy.  I wonder what happened to make him homeless?

although I knew a guy who thought paying rent is a waste of money.  So he would crash at friend's homes or boats (it was the islands).  He would take showers at work.  Sometimes sleep on the boat he worked on.    He made good money, just didn't think rent was a priority to spend it on.

His wife decided that she wanted to move closer to her family, but there were no job opportunities there for him. So I know their plan was to give up their apartment, have her move back to their hometown. He was planning on using their motorhome and living in the town campground for the summer (lots of contract workers tend to do this instead of living out of a hotel) before finding a cheap room to rent in the fall. So obviously he decided he didn't want to have to pay for the campground and thought he could get away with secretly living for free at work.

  • I felt pretty productive, actually! On Friday night I went out for a friend's new job celebration. I wanted to get home early-ish to clean but my ride wouldn't leave.

On Saturday I got my car washed, went to the groceries, did laundry, etc. Then FI and I went to a birthday party for his aunt and then I went into the city for dinner with friends.

Sunday I slept in and watched tv for a few hours and tried to allow myself to relax. FI and I ran some errands and I did a bunch of wedding stuff I've been putting off so I felt good about it!
