Did You Use Sparklers?

My FI and I are considering using sparklers for our evening departure for our wedding in May.  We went to a wedding earlier this year who used sparklers to leave the church for the reception and they bought personalized lighters for everyone to use to light them.  They spent like $200 on the lighters becuase they had to order a minimum of 500... and they only had 100 guests....so needless to say 6 months later, they still have hundreds of lighters .. I don't want to have to do that. or waste that kind of money.

What did you guys do to have guest light their sparklers?

I didn't do them, and we didn't even do a send off, but I would imagine personalized matches would be much cheaper.

Or bubbles. We did bubbles tied with a bow in our wedding colors. It was a time consuming process, but fun and cheap. And it helped give an extra splash of color.

Sparklers would be nice and make for a great picture, but knowing my family it would be a terrible idea.

I am also considering using sparklers for my wedding (sorry, not married yet!) I have heard though that sometimes matches don't work to light the sparklers.  They go out to quickly or something like that.  So make sure before buying 100 match books that you try lighting the sparklers with them to see if it works!!

Matches are much cheaper. As Leah said, maybe you should try them out, just to make sure. But I am sure they will work - I have lit sparklers with matches before. You may have to use two of them at once, but it will work. Good Luck!

I think sparklers are a great idea for an evening wedding.  I'm not using them but I went to a wedding where we held sparklers while the couple had their first dance in the dark, it was sweet.

Agreed, matches are cheaper.  But if you want lighters, I am positive that you can find somewhere that sells you less than a 500 minimum.

ETA:  you don't need one lighter/matchbook per person.  We always just light sparklers off of eachother at fireworks events.  So maybe one per couple, or a few lighters per table?

Sparklers are neat and make a really cool exit. I also so a photo of a couple that used glow sticks. It was really neat too!

Keep in mind that some venues do not allow sparklers... ours doesn't because of the fire hazard that they cause. :-(

I went to a wedding that used sparklers as they left.  We just lit our sparklers off other people.  So give a few people lighters if you don't want to buy ligthers for everyone.  I also saw online they have smokeless sparklers.  That would be better for the pictures.

Along the same lines as smokeless sparklers they have extra long ones that you can order online.
