Etsy.com success?

Has anyone used etsy.com to purchase their bridal belt/sash? The ones at the salon I bought my dress from sell designer belts but they are $500+. I've looked at tradesy but haven't seen anything I like. I am worried that I am going to spend money on a belt online and receive it and then hate it. Anyone have a success story for bridal accessories for etsy?

Re: Etsy.com success?

  • I didn't buy a belt/sash, but I bought my wedding headband and some wedding jewelry from different sellers and had a great experience with both. I've also bought a number of decorations from various sellers with all positive experiences. I always looked to make sure they had made a number of sales and that the reviews were generally positive. I also always read the return policy so I knew what I was getting myself into (i.e., if this jewelry doesn't look the way I want it am I o.k. being stuck with it because they have a no return policy?).

You're taking a chance, but personally I've only had good experiences!
  • I bought mine off Ebay and was very happy with it.

  • I bought a few from amazon.  None looked good with my dress, unfortunately, but amazon usually has free returns on clothing items.

  • Okay great! Thanks ladies. I didn't know that etsy sellers had return policies. I assumed it was no returns. That puts my mind at ease. Any suggested sellers I should look at?
  • I haven't bought any bridal accessories on Etsy yet, but everything else I've ever bought there has been perfectly as described/photographed. I think you're probably pretty safe, especially if you read the seller's feedback and make sure it's mostly positive, and stick to sellers with clear photos and descriptions of their items.

  • Etsy and Ebay are cousins.  The companies do not actually sell anything, but they give independent sellers a space to advertize and do have some regulations.  Some sellers are good, some are not.  For a small purchase, it is probably worth the risk.

  • I got shoes from Etsy for my wedding and I love them! Granted, it was a 5 star seller with hundreds of reviews, and it was VERY clear what the shoes looked like. Outside of attire, I have also ordered our save the dates, invites, bridesmaids gifts and more from the site.

Admittedly, I am a very visual person, and with stuff like belts and boleros (I ended up purchasing a bolero from my bridal salon) I just feel way more comfortable being able to see it, and try it in person. So it really depends on what kind of shopper you are.

Etsy in itself, in my opinion, it just about the most epic wedding resource ever. Just make sure you check out the reviews (and return policy) so you know what you're getting yourself into! Good luck!
  • Etsy can be really hit or miss because each store is basically independent. I've had a few really good experiences and a few I wasn't so happy with. If you do you're homework and read reviews you should be fine. Just be sure to have a back up and order early enough to make returns or get a replacement.
  • I bought my hair piece on Etsy, and also a sash that I didn't end up wearing (it was beautiful but I ended up using a green velvet ribbon because I wanted a pop of color). I was very happy with the purchases. My recommendation is to read the reviews very carefully - buy from someone with lots of reviews and only positive ones.
  • I absolutely LOVE Etsy. I purchase things on there all the time. For the wedding, I purchased my hair comb, garter, jewelry (earrings and bracelet), signage, thank you cards, rehearsal dinner invitations, hangers for my bridesmaids, door tags for the welcome bags, clutches for my bridesmaids, etc. etc. and that's just for the wedding lol. We are even registered on etsy! I order birthday and Christmas gifts on there, decor for our house, wreaths, etc. I have always been happy with everything I order on Etsy, so I highly recommend!
