PSA: Blackhawk Fans Have Taken Over

So, I get on the train at the second stop on the line... and it is packed, already. Every seat taken. Over run with Blackhawk fans. We are SIXTY miles from the city with at least 4 more stops to make- say a prayer for me today people!

  • Yeah as sad as I am to be sitting at my desk in the suburbs, I feel bad for the people who have to go downtown and actually work today. It's already a clusterfuck.

My office is on the parade route. While I love the blackhawks, I am working from home.

I normally take the train and when I drove past this morning, there were already massive delays. Plus I live in the middle on my train line, and almost all the trains were full and expressing past my stop.

I bet the Lighting fans are loving the fact that it is pouring rain.

  • I took the El to work rather than my normal bus, and was fine. No more crowded than usual at rush hour. I'm a few blocks from the route and may skip on over to catch a brief glimpse.

One of my coworkers posted on Facebook, "The fans are sitting in seats while the regular commuters stand." A bit unfair, yeah!

  • Yeah. I saw some of them w the cup at a bar around the corner from my place last night but it was a fairly small (all things considered) crowd.

Coming home from work this morning (I live across from museum campus) was a small hot mess- ppl everywhere already.

I love them, I'm so psyched, but I so don't want to deal with all the crowds. Monday night in the west loop bars was enough.

    oh Crawford my love... Hahah!!

  • Yeah, I love the Hawks, but this was too much; probably worse than when I dealt with in in 2013.  My office is archaic and doesn't allow us to work from home -ever (a few times my boss has let me but she told me to tell people I was on vacation so she wouldn't get in trouble), so I had to haul my ass in.  I was about 40 minutes late to work.

My train is an express so it doesn't make all stops, but by the time we hit Palatine, which is where a mass of humanity gets on every day any way, the whole thing was packed.  People standing on the upper balcony, aisles, vestibules, stairs... they had to turn people away at Palatine in fact.  And people were getting poured on...

  • So a bunch of coworkers and I walked over (thank you, news and Twitter for giving us info on where they'll be and when) and saw them all go by. Saw the Cup. Saw Duncan Keith carrying that adorable baby in a sling carrier.

It's kind of funny; we're in West Loop so after everyone went by, the crowd immediately dispersed. Back to work!! We're not able to crowd the lakefront parks and party like everyone else ;-)
