Happy Pride!

It's Pride weekend in my city. I just watched a friend of mine perform an amazing accousitic set that brought tears to my eyes. Tomorrow H and I get up early and head downtown to march in the Pride parade while about 27,000 of our neighbors cheer. It's always so great to turn the corner from the 30 or so Westboro-style protestors and see thousands and thousands of people coming out to support equality in their community.

Yay, happy Pride!  Last weekend was the Pride for my local area and it was great.  There was a barbecue and magician for people with kids and stuff and a youth prom and a movie showing, too.  Toronto Pride has already started.  I plan on going for the 27th and 28th, when they have the Dyke March and the Pride Parade.  It'll be my first time going there for Pride and I'm pretty excited and hoping to see Katherine Moennig.

  • It poured rain on us for the entire parade and rained so much they canceled the festival once the parade finished. The streets were still absolutely lined with people watching the parade though. Made me so proud to live in a city that turns out in droves in a torrential downpour to stand up for equality.

  • I haven't been to pride in a few years, last year it was so hot! But I always love seeing everyone that turns out. I know my FI's moms go every year.

  • Dallas' pride stuff is always in September for some reason. Maybe because it's usually deathly hot in June.

Houston needs to get on that train.

We do it in April in Phoenix for that reason. And we have rainbow fest in October. Which is like mini-pride, and the festival part is totally free.
