Anyone ever stay in a luxury hotel on catalina island? Which one did you stay at and how far ahead of time should I book for the middle of May next year? When I researched the island it says BOOK EARLY. Would booking in February for a May honeymoon be Adequate? Any suggestion for fine dinning?

Re: Santa Catalina island mini-moon.

  • I'm not sure if our hotel was really "luxury" or not, but we stayed at the Catalina Canyon Resort & Spa and it was nice. It's a few blocks up the hill from the main tourist strip, so it was nice and quiet. It was walkable in not-heels, but they also had a shuttle.

It's been a few years, so I'm sure some of the restaurants have changed, but we definitely had good food at the Descanso Beach Club and the Buffalo Nickel. For that matter, we had awesome fish tacos and margaritas from a food cart, and I'm not sure we had bad food anywhere that whole trip.

Not sure on booking times since I didn't book the trip.

I went parasailing on that trip, and it was great. If there's anything interesting happening at the casino, you should definitely go if only to see the inside of it; it's gorgeous. (They probably also do tours; I didn't look into it because we went to a jazz concert our first night there.) If you are at all prone to motion sickness, I might skip the bus tour that goes up to the airport, but I did manage to have a good time on it thanks to seabands.
