Happy 4th of July

I wish everyone a happy, yet safe, 4th of July.

DH is at work already.  I'm going in a few hours.  It's going to be a long day and there is a chance of showers later.  60% starting at 5pm.  Guess what time our BBQ starts?

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Re: Happy 4th of July

  • It's clouding up a bit here, too, with "scattered thunderstorms." Hopefully we won't get rained out.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I remember last year it started to rain about the same time.   Just a brief shower to get all the tables and chairs wet and be overall annoying (nothing like drying off some 300 chairs). Then it was clear the rest of the night.

  • Happy Fourth ladies!!  We're actually having friends per up here for our annual weenie roast.  We cook everything over the fire pit rather than BBQ - just hot dogs and s'mores.

Quick question.  I assume everyone has Monday off.  What is it like Friday??  I just imagine the entire country is deserted and shut down with people getting ready to party tonight.  The only places open are grocery stores and firework shops.  I know it's not that bad, but do a lot of you skip out on work on Friday??

I think most people had Friday (yesterday) off. It's usually the day before the holiday if it's on a Saturday, or the day after if it's on a Sunday. I have to work Monday.

  • Most people had off yesterday.  I worked little at my full time job. It was really slow so I left early.  I'm 1099 and do not have a real schedule anyway.

My part-time job is at the club.  It's the biggest weekend of the year.  I worked my ass of last night.   Tonight is the BBQ and tomorrow I have to be work early for the golf shotgun that starts at 7.

I wish I could take off on Monday to recoup, but other staff at my full time job are out on vacation.  Leaving me the only around to answer the phones.

We get a floating holiday. I choose to take mine on Friday but other coworkers are taking theirs on Monday.
  • We didn't close Friday and we will be open Monday. Being a credit union you'd think we would close at least one of those days, but nope. Since the holiday falls on a Saturday and the post office was open we were open. Hot question of the day on Friday was 'what are your hours today?'

Policy says that if a holiday falls on a Saturday we get a floater holiday where we can schedule to take a full day off any time before November 1st. It won't be awarded until tomorrow though because management didn't want to pay out the time for those who quit between it being awarded and the 4th.

I used one of my other vacation days to take tomorrow off so I could have our own belated July 4th celebration since H had to work.

  • Most people that I know of had Friday off. But there's lots of people who don't work a regular 8-5. I regularly work Tues-Sat. So I have Sun, Mon, Tues off this week.
