7 year switch?

Does anyone else watch FYI channel?
I swear it's just a nightmare channel about horrible marriage ideas, that is my guilty pleasure.

I watch Married at First Sight like a train wreck, I just can't look away..

They've been plugging this new show, hard. Apparently it's about couples experiencing trouble in their marriages, so clearly the best way to fix this is to give them a "new spouse" for two weeks to see if the grass is really greener on the other side.

I'm also confused as to why they called it 7 year switch when most of these couples have been married for less than 5 years..

Anyone else thinking WTF about this show? I know it's probably all fake, but really..this can't be helpful in any way

I don't know the channel or the show, but as to the bolded: there's a really famous Marilyn Monroe movie called the 7 Year Itch (the iconic image of her white dress blowing up is from this movie) and it's about how couples who have been married for 7 years get this restless "itch" where they're less happy in their marriage and more likely to stray or whatever. I'm guessing the show's title is a play on that.

  • I watched Married at First Sight too. The first season was good, but this last one...Oh, man. I heard somewhere (don't know if it's true) that they didn't do casting for the men. They just found 3 guys - one was affiliated with Doug from the previous season, one off match.com, and one off facebook! It just seems like none of these people were compatible to begin with and the fact that one of them threatened to kill their spouse and family is terrifying. Not sure that I'll be watching next season if it's anything like this one.

The 7 year switch show just looks like a recipe for disaster.

  • That sounds stupid. And calling it that if the couples haven't been married 7 years is stupid, too.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

I have seen both seasons of Married at First Sight. I agree that the couples in season two were more volatile. I'm wondering where you got this information about how they do the matchmaking though. I've never heard that and can't find a news source saying that. I'm just curious -- the parts with the matchmaking look real to me.

It's just a random message board, so again, what is said may not be true. Supposedly there is someone on there who was an "insider" from the show. They said that there WAS casting for the men on the first season, just not this last season.

Holy hell that is sad about Married at first Sight! I watched the 1st season with my roommate and loved it, we watched a few of the second season but I had moved out and it got hard for us to get together to watch it so I just didn't. I had no idea that happened.

That show 7 year switch sounds a lot like wife swap with out the guise that people were doing it for their families instead of themselves, ha!

Wow. Now I really wonder if all of that is true or not. It seems weird to me that the professionals involved would risk their reputations by "matching" people without getting proper background information. I read that they are already filming season 3 in Atlanta.

  • Ok, I admit: I watch FYI too. I couldn't stop watching Married at First Sight, even though as it went on I started to hate everyone on the show. Is Arranged an FYI show too? Because that's another trainwreck I love to watch.

As for the 7 Year Switch - I saw part of a commercial for it and had no clue what it was about (condoned cheating? I dunno...). That said, I am sure I'll watch it at some point. I love FYI for how completely outlandish its shows are.

  • People have their own trashy shows that they love- some it's the Kardashians, some it's Teen Mom, for me it's most definitely all these shows on FYI. Married at First Sight seemed like such a terrible idea but then when it worked out for 2 of the 3 original couples, I was like hey maybe there is something here. But then the next season had 3 out of 3 divorces and a restraining order so that crashed and burned pretty quick!

But anyways, yes I've seen the first 2 episodes so far of 7 year switch (and the DVR is set to record the rest as they air). I think it's a disaster that's going to end all the couples. They claim that they are matching people up with others who have the qualities their spouses are lacking so that they can see "ok I want him to be more organized, but after living with this organized guy for 2 weeks it sucks and now I love my husband so much more". That is how it's supposed to work. But I don't think it's going to AT ALL. It's been 1 day and the people already seem like "this person is so much better than my spouse- I really like them!".

When they were telling their families about doing it, one mother nailed it. She said guys this is a bad idea because you're going to essentially feel all those feelings when you first meet somebody you like and you're full of giddy emotions. You are going to feel that for this other person, and then how do you come back from that? TRUTH. But the couple was like oh, I had not thought of that at all, it won't be like, I won't like this person. Come on....you really think they are going to put you with someone who is everything you've ever wanted and you're really going to be thinking about your spouse? So any couple who would do this, in my eyes, is already completely fucked.
