Wedding Invitations & Paper

A good pen

My mother in law has amazing handwriting and has offered to hand write our invitations.  I wanted to pick her up a nice pen to put this all together.  Has anyone purchased a good writing pen and also where did you get it from.  TIA

Re: A good pen

  • I just used a thin sharpie.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • May be a calligraphy pen from Staples or a paper store? Depends on her handwriting too what kind of tool she would prefer.

This.  Ask her what kind of pen she's planning on using.  You can get nice calligraphy pens and extra ink charges from Staples, but if she's planning on using a nice, fine-tipped Sharpie, then it's unnecessary.

I used these pens to address my invitations: http://www.dickblick.com/products/sakura-pigma-micron-pen/   I used the 05 tip in the set of 4 Sepia inks for mine.  The 01 tip was nice too.  These were also the brand/type of pens I used in design school for fine illustrations.

I also sampled out thin sharpies but I felt like the ink bled a little bit, my envelopes were a sort of kraft paper material.

Oh forgot to say I got my pens at Hobby Lobby, which is the only craft store nearby my house, but you can order them online and they have them in other art supply stores.  I haven't seen them in Michaels though.

  • This is great information.  I am going to try to make it over to Hobby Lobby one night after work then.  Thank you very much!

  • I use calligraphy pens by Shaeffer, and there are other good brands of pen.
