Adding straps to a dress

I love the dress I bought, but it has spaghetti straps and I think it would be much more flattering if it had thicker lace straps. I'm going to get it altered soon, and I know prices vary hugely among regions, but what did you pay to get straps added? I just want a ballpark range for what I'm going to pay. Literally, I don't have any idea whether it will be $50 or $500.

Thanks!

Re: Adding straps to a dress

  • I think the best way to do it is to find a style of sleeve you like/ will flatter the dress and ask your alterations person during your next visit. They will be the only ones that can give you an exact quote.
  • This is a question that can vary drastically from region to region, and it also really depends on the details. My seamstress is taking fabric from the bottom of the dress (I need the dress shortened a few inches) to create cap sleeves that can be snapped on and then removed. This, plus all the taking in, cleaning, fixing beading etc was quoted at $150.
