Titillating Tuesday

Re: Titillating Tuesday

  • @jenna8984 - Show me the couches you like! I found a couch I really loved at a local furniture store, but that's lower on the list of stuff to buy. Higher up are rugs, lamps and an entertainment center.

  • @jenjen047 and @bethsmiles if you need to calculate calories the formula I used that actually helped me is the Harris-Benedict formula which goes like this:

    BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )

    That's the bare minimum you should be eating a day.
    And then you multiply that number by your activity level which is this:
    little or no exercise is BMR x 1.2
    light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week is BMR x 1.375
    moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week is BMR x 1.55
    hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week is BMR x 1.725
    very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training is BMR x 1.9

    That total is how many calories you need to eat to maintain your weight. After you get that subtract 250-500 and that's how many calories you should be eating to come down in weight.

    I didn't do any of that when I started and just used an app to calculate but I didn't make any progress until I did it that way. Sorry that was long just thought it might help :)
  • @alpacina We don't technically need new couches but we hate the leather ones we have. We sat on this chaise in the store and absolutely melted into it!!! lol This is a really popular store in this region but I don't think they ship out where you are.

    Are you looking for higher end rugs and lamps? I got mine at Ikea and Walmart lol

  • @untouchablets - Thanks! My biggest hurdle with counting calories is trying to figure out how much I burn in a work-out. I quit my gym (they kept calling and nagging me about coming in, it was very annoying) so I've been doing Jillian Michaels videos and some youtube videos but I really have no idea how much those burn.

  • @jenna8984 - The furniture you linked to looks great! Are you thinking about that color? That's really similar to the color of the couch I liked at the store. I want a couch that both of us can lay on at the same time. Right now the cushions are too huge and it makes it hard to cuddle.... But we got it for free, so I try not to complain.

    And no, not looking for higher end. The one rug I own is from Ikea, haha! I'm obsessed with the rugs from Home Decorators Collection, but I can't get BF to agree on any yet.

  • @bethsmiles well if you do it what way i mentioned you don't have to know how much you burn each workout, ask long as you are working out regularly. For example I don't do much cardio, I spend most of my time lifting weights so I don't know how much I burn either. You could get one of those fitness trackers to help if you wanted though.
  • @bethsmiles I recommend THIS for tracking calories burned during a workout. It's really accurate, and it helps to see how your heart rate changes during different types of workouts.

    @AlPacina LOL I completely forgot about the name of the town in Footloose! Too funny!

  • @alpacina Yea I really like the grey. Our current living room is chocolate leather couches, chocolate curtains, and the coffee table, end tables, and entertaintment stand are all really dark wood (basically black). I liked it at first but now it just seems overwhelmingly dark and cave-like. So for the new house we are thinking the grey couches, white curtains, and light wood. The new house has a finished basement so our current stuff can all go down there. You definitely need a good cuddle couch!

  • @untouchablets - Reading fail on my part, for some reason my eyes skipped over the days per week worked out and I thought you just had to figure out how hard you were working out and put it into a light, moderate, hard, etc category and I was thinking I'm not really sure how to do that!

  • @jenjen047 and @bethsmiles if you need to calculate calories the formula I used that actually helped me is the Harris-Benedict formula which goes like this: BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) - ( 4.7 x age in years ) That's the bare minimum you should be eating a day. Just keep in mind that you never want to go below your BMR. For example, mine is 1,250 calories. Since I am lightly active, I get 1,500 calories a day... but I can't just subtract 500 calories if I'm trying to lose weight, because my net calories has to be above 1,250. Does that make sense? On days I work out, sometimes I have to eat random snacks before I go to bed to get myself above that threshold.

    @Eilis1228 DOUBLE DIGITS?! How did that happen?!

    What's got you energized these days?
    Not much to be honest. Except what I will write about for the next question.

    Anyone that hasn't taken their summer vacation yet? Where are you going?
    Not too much of a vacation but Thursday we are heading up to Maine for two days with my family. They rented three cabins on a lake so we are going up to visit on Thursday and Friday coming home Saturday. Should be fun!

    You have to go out to lunch today... where do you go?
    I did go out to lunch today! I ordered from a little local shop and got a Mediterranean wrap which is basically a Greek Chicken Salad wrap. NOM.

  • @cu97tiger Why? What happens if you go below the 1250? I would still think that would be a win for weight loss.

  • Haha @cu97tiger said tit.

    Hi everyone!!

    @labro - BIRTHDAY.

    @eilis1228 - so much wedding stuff! Eek!!

    @bethsmiles - good luck on the transfer! I know you've been looking for a place to settle into for a while now.

    @swazzle - you need a vacation from the sickies!

    @southernpeach89 - Callie will be just like the squash: different shapes and sizes as she grows up! Or like squash, she'll be diverse and versatile! A really unique kid.

    What's got you energized these days?
    My summer trips are over! Work won't calm down any, but it will be a different kind of busy. I've also got a big life change ahead that I'm looking forward to.

    Anyone that hasn't taken their summer vacation yet? Where are you going?
    I don't vacation in the summer, but I am planning a trip in December to go to the Winter Classic with @goldenpenguin and @csousa1!!

    You have to go out to lunch today... Where do you go?
    We wen't to Po' Melvin's today, cheap "cajun" food. Lots of fried stuff. It wasn't my favorite, but our senior pastor is apparently friends with the owner, who is really friendly and kind.

    @jenna8984 - Because if you go below your BMR, your body thinks you are starving, and it starts holding on to every calorie you put in your body, which is counter-productive to weight loss.

    @audrewuh - tit tit tit b00bies ;)

    @bethsmiles - Good luck with the interview.

  • @bethsmiles good luck!

    @cu97tiger Is that really true though or just an urban legend? I've seen on shows like Biggest Loser and Extreme Weight Loss where the person didn't lose any that week and they try to use the excuse "Well I don't think I ate enough" and the trainer flat out says "You are full of shit. A calorie deficit will never make you gain weight." So I dunno, I kind of believe them, it's their job.
