HELP! Wedding dress purchase protection?

How are you protected as a consumer? I bought a dress last August at a trunk show at a bridal boutique. It wasn't the best experience but I thought since I got such a good deal on it that I wouldn't let it bother me. The dress came in this June and it is not the same dress I tried on. I paid over 8000 for this dress, the trunk show dress I tried on seemed well worse the price and my dress that came in in June is not the same dress I tried on before. The lace is cheaper, the beading on the lace falls off every time I move an inch, there isn't as much tulle on the bottom, the bottom of the dress isn't the same, it just seems like a much cheaper dress. I know that people will say that happens when you haven't seen the dress in a while but I have pictures of me in both of the dresses- it is not worth the price that I paid. The boutique tried to tell me the reason the beads are falling off is because they must have been ''de-beading the lace'' to make it not as blingy. I am so disappointed, I feel so stuck with this dress and I have no clue what to do now. But when paying as much as I did for this dress I feel like it should be the same and I should be happy with it. Does anyone have any idea if you are protected as a consumer? I am going to call my credit card company but I'm not sure if that will do anything.

Re: HELP! Wedding dress purchase protection?

  • 1.  Call the shop and speak with the manager of the boutique.  Tell her/him that you are not happy with the dress because it is different from the sample.  Ask that she call the designer.
    2.  Read your contract.  What does it promise?

Don't do anything else until you give the shop a chance to make it right.  Be polite, firm and logical.  No bridal hysterics.
