One of my girlfriends recently got married about two days ago. She is planning on hosting a reception to celebrate her marriage in September.. actually quite close to my anniversary.

To the best of my knowledge, there will be no wedding traditions reanacted and I sincerely doubt she will be wearing a big poufy white wedding dress. Although, there may be wedding cake.

To me, I dont think this is that big of etiquette faux pas since she isnt pretending to not to be married and just wants to celebrate with friends and family.

  • Doesn't sound like a PPD to me - no re-enactment of the ceremony, I assume no bridal party, first dance, etc., and it's not a secret. And I never side-eye cake, so this just sounds like a big party.

  • Nope. This looks legit.
  • sounds like a party to celebrate their recent marriage.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Sounds good to me.

I never side eye cake. I would not even side eye the couple cutting the cake. At many celebrations the guest of honor cuts the cake so why not in this case? PLUS CAKE!!! I LOVE CAKE!!!

I think the problem with PPDs is acting out the ceremony again and/or keeping it secret. Sounds like this couple is not doing either.
  • A PPD is when a couple has a second ceremony, not a belated reception.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

    Nope, not a PPD.

A PPD is a re-entactment of a wedding that already happened.

Anyone can throw a party at any time, for any reason (such as a celebration of marriage).

Cake is always awesome. And on that note- cutting of the cake is not a direct wedding tradition. It is proper etiquette for the host to cut the cake and serve it (or other dessert) to their guests. The wedding tradition is feeding of the cake to each other- sharing in the first meal as husband and wife- which would not be appropriate at any time other than the wedding day.

Hosted party, for any reason- party on!
  • I don't see it as a PPD. My friend got married in her hometown, but the groom has a large family in Texas that couldn't all make it. They had a "reception" there to celebrate, but there was no ceremony, she wore a summer dress, and that was it. It was just a way to share with out of state family.
  • UPDATE:

Turns out it is a PPD after all. She is having her "wedding" at 1:00pm and then the reception will be held at another location with 45-60 minute drive distance.

Admittedly, I am a little disappointed with  my friend as she is such a classy gal.

Oh, and I got invited via text message but she did include my SO.

She included your SO, so who cares how you were invited. I invite people to parties by text all the time. Yes, the redo ceremony is stupid and lame, but how she invited you is irrelevant.
