FRIDAY

edited August 2015 in Chit Chat
We made it! This felt like a long week- I'm hoping today goes quickly!

Big plans for the evening or weekend?

Every second Friday of the month in the summer my town holds an Art Walk on the square and a lot of local businesses stay open late. The artists are performers and artisans (magicians, musicians, painters, wood workers, etc.), so I will probably go see some of that.

Tomorrow is my wedding shower- I think it'll be fun as long as I can get some rest tonight (again, long week).

Sunday fiance and I have a few wedding things to do and I have to go buy a gift for a bridal shower I may attend next weekend.

ETF: typos. I swear I should just make it my tagline...

Re: FRIDAY

  • Have fun at your shower, @FeeleyToBe! I'm going back-to-school clothes shopping today, but no plans for the weekend itself.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Have fun at your shower!!

No plans for H and I this weekend and I love it. We've got shit to get done around the house (painting, cleaning, dusting) that's been neglected for weeks. I'm also going to do ALL the laundry in my brand new washing machine - H finally let me pull the trigger on the new Samsung washing machine with the sink built in it and it's amazing. Now I have to convince him that we need the matching dryer.

Tomorrow night, H promised me Indian food if I watch Raiders of the Lost Ark with him. I hate most movies but he's think it's a travesty that I haven't seen it. So I get my favorite food and he gets to further my movie education.

Sunday we'll probably going to the beach - it's supposed to be 90 degrees and all sunshine. I haven't been to the beach yet this year so I'm really excited.
  • Thanks ladies. I think it will be fun- food, good family/friends, gifts, and no games!
  • Have fun Feeley!! I'm super pumped...my BFF will be here in 45 minutes and we are road tripping to Chicago for eats, beats, shopping and whiskey galore!!

  • @FeeleyToBe, I think I used to live in the same town you now live in.  (Stalker!)

DH knows I have a weakness for movie popcorn--he can get me to see any dumb movie if he buys me popcorn.  That's how he got me to see Pearl Harbor (ugh), Alien vs. Predator (double ugh), and Mission to Mars (the ughiest of all).
  • Have fun @FeelyToBe!!

Tonight, I am going to my cousin's wedding shower! She is getting married 3 weeks after me. Such a fun, exciting time for our family!!!

Tomorrow, I'm going over to my venue with my wedding coordinator to nail down the set up... 5 weeks, y'all!!! It's getting real!!

  • I'm hungover. My coworkers and I went out last night for a going-away party for our intern. We ended up hitting a few parties, doing touristy stuff (Navy Pier ferris wheel, etc.) and drinking too much. In pain today.

We were supposed to have a date night downtown tomorrow but realized yesterday that this weekend is the Air & Water show. All of my downtown friends get out of town and suburbanites try to avoid downtown because of the swarms of tourists, etc. (Sorry, @kimmiandkoley!) I think date night will be downgraded to the 'burbs.

Beyond that, this weekend has to be work. We're seriously behind on the household projects we swore we would do this summer. That has to change fast!

No big plans this weekend for us.  We were supposed to get the crib but our parents are making it difficult, so I told DH this morning that we are better off waiting until October to order it because I don't want it sitting in my living room since we can't put it together until October anyway since we are having the exterminators in and out and then we have the warranty until the end of September anyway (anything new brought it voids the warranty).

  • No plans yet, weather should be nice so I'd like to do something outside to enjoy.  Problem is our top 2 things would be going to the pool or on the boat with friends and both of these are typically drinking activities, especially for H, and he's on a bit of a drinking hiatus due to overdoing it too many times. I can do these activities and not drink and be fine but he doesn't think he can have fun if everyone else is drinking and he's not.  Sigh.

Need to clean out my closet too, finally just need to get rid of clothes that don't fit or don't get worn. even though my weight has stayed the same it seems to have reallocating to the midsection this past year or so and a lot of clothes just don't look right anymore so I need to give up and get rid of them instead of continuing to hang on.

  • Fun! I'm missing our art walk this weekend to go to my city (from Fi's city 1.5 hrs away where I am moving and stay much of the week). My city has theirs on the first Friday so I'm missing both this month.

My cousin and his wife are coming to town to visit. I haven't seen him since my aunt died 3 years ago since they don't have any reason to come to town besides us anymore.

I'm cheating on my detox diet tonight and going to check out a new cocktail bar that has opened in my city since I've been gone. I'm justifying it as "work" (I'm a food/booze critic in both cities) :)

It's my weekly blowout day, which is excellent because my hair looks like crap. I'm too lazy to wash it myself more than once per week, since after my accident I still only have one functional arm (my left one of course, and I'm right handed) so it takes FOREVER to wash/brush/dry/style this mop one handed. This has been my "did it myself" half of the week. Looking forward to the "Boss Lady did it" half.

I need a nap. I stayed up too late, but I got a bunch of HM stuff done. Booked tix to see Revue Féerie at the Moulin Rogue, and got our "skip the line" passes for the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre.
  • Have fun at your shower.

Today DH and I are going to look for a new mattress.  Ours is only 4 years old, but it's deteriorating at a rapid rate.  Neither one of us gets a good night sleep.  I think the 2 moves (with one having the mattress in storage for 2 months) ruined the mattress.  It's just never been the same.   The first move with the long storage we packed ourselves and I think we just didn't pack it correctly.

Tonight and tomorrow work.  Sunday I have off.  Not sure the plan.  Cleaning will be on the agenda.  Probably a hike too.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I handed in my final assignment last night.  It took DH and I over 3 hours to edit it, which I think it at least as long as it took me to write the damn thing.  So, I'm pretty much finished my summer classes!!  Woo!!

I think today will be cleaning the house, since I have papers and clothes everywhere.  With my 2 classes, I've just been leaving school work everywhere.  DH will be happy to come home to a clean house.

Tonight is dinner with my MIL  She's amazing.  Tomorrow we're doing the City Chase near us.  It's kinda like the Amazing Race but in the city.  I figured it would be a fun way to try something new.  And Sunday, I think DH might have to work, so I will likely sit around in sweats all day wasting time.

  • Tonight FI and I are headed to a Rockies game.  We usually catch about 5 games a season but this is our first one this season.  They are not good.  But, it's University of Wyoming night, so FI couldn't pass up the chance to get a free Rockies hat in UW colors, he's a hardcore fan even though he didn't go there (as are most Wyomingites).   I'm just going for an elk brat and a beer.

Not sure what else we're doing this weekend... I need to get some cleaning done, but that's about it.

Rockies stadium rocks!      Team sucks, but the stadium is kick-ass. You do not even have to be a baseball fan to have fun.  I like the top deck with all the lounge chairs (some of which do not even face the field - Ha).   And the views.  Can not beat those views.

This has got to one of my favorite no- smoking area signs in a stadium:

Oh yeah I love Coors Field... it's fun to just go people watch.  We landed tickets for opening day a few years ago (and then went to the Avs/Red Wings game at Pepsi Center that night!), and it was a blast.  I was going to take my folks when they were here a few weeks ago but we couldn't make it work.

Tonight we're going to be facing west so we should get some good sunset views... crossing fingers that no thunderstorms roll through!

  • FI leaves early early Tuesday morning to go to LA for work (seriously I have to get up at 430 to get him to the airport so he can go to LA for a week without me.. Ugh.)

We are under the 30 day mark as of today (!!!) and we actually leave for the wedding in 21 days, and FI is out of town for 10 of those days,  so we will most likely be finalizing absolutely everything possible this weekend. Which isnt much left. I finished paying all our vendors yesterday so we mainly just need to start work on the seating chart. We have the board made to post them but we now have to actually decide where to sit people. We need to go and buy cups for the bar and some colouring books and crayons for the kids table. And pack for the wedding and honeymoon which we obviously have to leave for last.  SO CLOSE.

Also I booked our final honeymoon excursion last night, dinner at the Moulin Rouge. Whoooop

  • DH is crazy excited because his NFL team is playing their first pre-season game tonight. So, there will be football going on in our home tonight.

But, I have no real plans for the rest of the weekend. I need to pick up around the house a bit and do laundry.  But, otherwise, I'm hoping to get some good relaxation and reading time this weekend. It's feels awesome to have a weekend with no plans for a change.

  • H and I have no plans. He got home from vacation late Wednesday, I went to a preseason Bears game last night so we haven't really seen each other in a week. Looking forward to a nice quiet weekend at home with him.

Preseason football tonight in our house as well! I knew I was forgetting something.
  • I'm going shopping for work clothes this afternoon because I start my full-time MBA program on Monday!!!! So excited!  This weekend is probably just hanging out at the pool for a few days since my program is about 2 hours away from where we live and i'll be spending a couple nights a week away from DH.
  • Yay Friday! Today is my work's company-wide BBQ and car show, so I get out of work for a few hours. They also do a huge raffle, and last year I won a $100 gift certificate to a fancy Italian restaurant. My raffle luck has been good lately (lots of raffles at my work), so we'll see what happens.

Tomorrow is Portland's annual Adult Soapbox Derby. Groups of adults make soapbox cars and race them from the top of this hill/park to the bottom. It's really amusing. H works all weekend, but I'm going with friends

Sunday is probably a gardening day, since the weeds are getting out of control.

  • That whole weekend sounds fun @tfmrserwin- especially the soapbox derby!

And to all the pre-season FB people, I'm with you- it's "fall" in my book now.  And my BEARS actually WON last night!

I know. I always get all giddy with the first game of the year. Walking up to Soldier Field for that first game is like coming home from a long vacation for me. Like, "ahhhhhhhhh. This is where I belong. And I will be back nine more times..."

AAAHH! I forgot the other best part of today! The Seahawks preseason opener is tonight at 7. So. Ready. And yes, I agree that preseason=fall. It's even supposed to rain here today (though it will be back up to 90 next week). I'm ready for cool weather and football!

This is funny. I just posted earlier in this thread that I booked our tix to Moulin Rouge last night. We went with just the show instead of dinner, because we arrive in Paris on the last night of the current menu and it is booked. The next night starts the Fall/Winter menu, and it just didn't blow me away. Also, there are more likely to be hiccups on night 1 of a brand new menu, and there are already more restaurants that we want to check out than we have available meals. We decided to go eat and then catch the 9:00. Post a review! We decided to skip dinner at the Eiffel Tower too, since reviews are hit and miss. We just got cut the line passes and lift tix.

The summer menu does look way better than the winter one doesn't it! I was glad that we still fell in the summer menu. We also decided to skip the Eiffel Tower Dinner, figured there were some more off the beaten map authentic french restaurants that would be fun to find. We got VIP after hours tour of the Louvre with a wine and cheese tasting, and a dinner cruise as our other excursions. Probably will do a day trip to Versailles and hit up some of the other museums too.

A bit of unsolicited advice: get more suits and very dressy business casual clothes than you think you need. I did a full-time program and found myself needing suits for lots of networking events and dressier business casual outfits for other events. If you're going to be in an area with good shopping, you might want to do a bit of shopping now and wait until later for the rest- you'll get a better sense of what you need pretty quickly.

I have never worked as hard as I did in Year 1 of my program but it was amazing.

Thank you for the advice, that's definitely good to know! I got a good amount of dressier things today to supplement my VERY business casual wardrobe. I'll definitely have to plan for probably another sit sometime in the near future!

My little brother (who used to live in France) said that Chez Gladines is his fav restaurant in Paris. Basque style and not tourist-y. It's on our short list.
