Snarky Brides

The girl who thinks everyone is copying her wedding

One of my friends is extremely protective of her wedding from 2 years ago. She thinks she owns every idea or detail from her wedding and gets so judgmental when she hears that someone else might be doing something similar to her. Her cousin is getting married this year and wants to have a pink peony bouquet. Friend had the same bouquet two years ago and has been snarking about her cousin's choice ever since finding out ("she's clearly copying me!" "She is copying my wedding!").

Now that a few details are coming out to her about my wedding, she has been sneaky snarky to me, a sweet voice comes out of her, but I know she's actually pissed. "Oh, you're doing lanterns for centerpieces, just like me!" "Oh you're doing pie for dessert not cake? That's like, exactly what we did."

I just shrug it off, but to be a little honest it does bother me that she has that big of a head to think that I'm copying her and not just doing what FI and I actually want to do (we love pie) or taking what our venue already provides for us (lanterns). And what I really want to say is: "don't worry, we're not copying everything you did. I'm not going to have a gap between the ceremony and reception or a cash bar."

  • I find this idea that you can copy a wedding so fantastic! Because nobody has EVER thought of those ideas before you did, and EVERY detail of EVERY wedding is going to be so different.. nope! It's a wedding, for the most part, same general idea and most of them have been done before. This friend sounds like a peach! I find it especially funny because every time I bring up an idea to my BF she offers me stuff she used in her wedding to use in mine, great recycling right there!

OMG I'm having lanterns too.  My MOH already has them so they're free.  I must be copying her.

  • Tell her not to worry. You are only going to copy the parts of her wedding that didn't suck!
  • Wow pink peonies and lanterns?  So unique!  Is this friend of yours crazy?  Because seriously all she has to do is look on pinterest and see those same things all over the place (which is probably exactly where she got her ideas from).  I would put her in her place.  Whenever she says "just like mine!" I would respond with "Sarah, this is not about you or your wedding so shut the hell up."  But then again I can't stand people who are all "me, me, me" all the freaking time.
I was going to say, just show her your Pinterest page and say, isn't this where you got your ideas?
  • I have a few friends getting married.. One who is doing the same colors (the nerve of her.. ;) ) I have offered for her to go through the stuff I have left.. And the others use of any thing non color specific (candles, vases etc.) I would take it as a compliment if people do the same things as it means they enjoyed it at ours! But I certainly wouldn't pretend I own the rights to candy buffets at weddings.. Or am the only person to have had cupcakes/pie instead of a cake.. That's just silly.
  • So who am I copying by having cheesecake?

  • Or people who are offended when their friends use the same venues or vendors as they did.  One of my BMs is getting married next year and is really not into planning.  She sheepishly asked if she could look into my florist, but ONLY if I wouldn't mind, and NO BIG DEAL if I did.  Duh, of course you can have her contact info!  We love our vendors so much that sending more business their way would be awesome.  You wanna use our venue?  Cool.  I already know all the ins and outs of it so less work for others.  I don't understand why some people are so protective of their weddings.

  • So who am I copying by having cheesecake?
Who am I copying by having a tiered Tower O' Cheese?
  • Did she have burlap and lace? Because NO ONE has done that before.

Please, please, please make the comment about the gap and cash bar. That would be amazing.

  • So who am I copying by having cheesecake?
Me. You better not feed him that shit. H and I were clearly the first and only people in history to feed each other cheesecake.

  • I really don't understand this. My bff is getting married 4 months after me and is using none of the same vendors as me. I'm actually slightly hurt because I LOVE my vendors and want everyone to use them! But then again her style is completely different from mine so it makes sense.

Also I am planning a party perfect for me and I'm not even going to get to enjoy it, so I would love for someone to copycat my entire wedding and that way I can sit back and enjoy the party I wanted.
  • Oh no! I loved my friends' wedding website on theknot and thought it was super useful so I decided to make one when I got engaged and started planning my wedding. That led me to these forums and to all the wonderful advice I've received. I guess that makes me a copycat haha.

I think it's perfectly normal to see something you like at a wedding and use it at your own. Likewise avoiding things you didn't like at weddings. I guess it'd be weird if your wedding looked identical but picking the same color flowers or similar centerpieces is no big deal at all.

  • @randomslove my dress is ivory... Why are you copying me?!
How dare you both!  Mine is ivory and I DEFINITELY bought mine first.  At least mine has a train so it's different from everyone else's.

  • That's it. I'm dying my dress pink! Anyone else who does this must be copying me.

  • @frenchiekin mine also has a train... Well shit. One of us is changing.

  • Uhhh @frenchiekin I just creeped on your profile because I thought I saw you on the October 2015 board, but your wedding is 10/3/15 right? Are we the same person... Same wedding date, same dress color, both have trains...

Saw it on Pinterest.  A large bottom tier of something like a cheddar round, a smaller bleu cheese round, and top round of brie; decorated with grapes.  Now, if any of you copy me and my Pinterest find, I'll cut you!

I don't want that for my wedding, I want that for my Saturday night! Bring on a case of wine for that.

ETA: my 12 year old self just thought enough about this and how you would be "cutting the cheese".
