32, which I'm kinda impressed with, considering I don't live in the US.  And there were some I could kinda check off, like the Northern Lights in Alaska.  Never been to Alaska, but we get there here in Alberta and I've seen them in Yellowknife too.  Also Rocky Mountain National Park.  Never been there, but I've been to the Rockies many times in Canada.  But it's expensive to get down there to visit

ETA - 33.  I have been to Badlands.  Just forgot that's what it was called

  • 10 haha. Hawaii, vegas, california, florida. Thats about the extent I've travelled to the US.

I only got 13 as a Canadian Girl, but I agree with you on the Northern Lights and The Rockies as I am in northern BC we get the lights all the time and I have been to the Canadian Rockies many many times

  • 64.   I've never been to California, so i've missed out on a lot of things.

My sister and her family has been to all 50 states.  They hit up a lot of things on the list.  I would imagine they would be in the 100-150 range.

  • Only 31 :(  That's mostly because I've been to Washington DC and grew in CA so I've seen most of the CA ones.

FI and I want to plan a camping trip to Yellowstone and another one to Mt Rushmore.  Mt Rushmore is only about 6 hours from us so that would be an easy long weekend trip with our camper.

  • 42. Seems low for the amount of states I've been to but whatever!

  • 44, a lot of which we hit on our cross-country road trip last August. 72 hours in the car. And it was awesome. (We went west from Indiana to Idaho, and back through Montana, Wyoming, etc)

Next summer we want to do an east coast road trip, ideally for NC to Maine. I haven't been to Maine since I was a little kid and I haven't been to a lot of the north eastern states. So maybe we can hit some more places on that list :)

Mount Rushmore is pretty disappointing. It was a nice drive through the hills but we stopped and looked at Mount Rushmore itself for like 5 minutes. We did Mount Rushmore, a few of the scenic drives around there, Crazy Horse, Wind Cave tour and Badlands all in one day. We weren't even rushed or anything.

Yeah I figure the Mount itself wouldn't be super exciting for more than about an hour, but the surrounding area is nice for camping.

  • That was pretty fun. I came up with 57/200 but I was shocked at how many places I didn't actually recognize. Apparently I'm missing out on some pretty incredible national parks.

Also, can someone please explain the specialness of the Wisconsin State Capitol and why it's on the list?

Agree with this. We were on our way home from the road trip I mentioned above, and I looked at the map and said, "Hey we're pretty much going right past Mount Rushmore. We should stop and see it." So we did. We walked up, looked at it for a minute, and then went back to the car.

It's not that it's not worth seeing, but I was glad we stopped by on our way home from a trip, rather than planning an entire trip around just that.

I also can't stand crowded places and the crowds there gave me major anxiety. You literally couldn't walk in a straight line without someone bumping into you or cutting in front of you or stopping right in front of you to look at their phone or something.

Agreed... Orange County?  The Paris hotel in Vegas?

  • Yeah, the Vegas Strip and Paris hotel seem to be one and the same to me

  • @WinstonsGirl Same. I didn't get why they were considered separate either, but I was happy for the extra check I guess.

@julieanne912 I definitely wouldn't plan on making Rushmore the focus of your visit, but it's fun to see if you're making the trip to the Black Hills. Crazy Horse is right there and that monument IS impressive, even though it isn't even close to completion. The size of it really gets you, and they have a pretty decent museum to go with it. The camping out there is beautiful, there's great trout fishing, and last time I was there we went to Wind Cave which was a TON of fun! The cave systems in the Hills are all pretty interesting, but I think Wind Cave was my favorite. Then of course there's the drive through Needles Highway and Custer State Park.

  • 15, but I would have thought it would be more.
  • 34.5 - half because I have been to Martha's Vineyard, but not Nantucket.
  • 56, but I think living in NY helps.  Plus my college was on there!

  • @CMGragain, weird right?  I go every year, don't get me wrong, and it's made a LOT OF 'must see' lists....but compared to what was up there, it seemed a bit odd.

I took the World's 50 Mot popular tour sites quiz too.  I haven't been out of North or South America...but I do a lot of walking on my ifit "walk anywhere in the world" app.....does that count for anything?

  • I had 49... I actually expected more.  A lot of that is thanks to my parents doing a lot of road trips growing up. I've been through most of the country, but haven't made it to the northwest yet, so that cost me several of them. A couple of my favorite cities were on there though... Cape May, NJ holds a special place in my heart, as does Savannah.

I'm hoping to go there when we go to Wildwood in September.  I've been on the ferry, but I don't think that counts!

Any must sees?  I don't know if DH will be into it since his mother was so against it when we were in Wildwood last year.

I dunno, I think maybe it'd count in a Presidential election year. Don't all the candidates usually go and make speeches, have debates and stuff? That'd be something to see since it's supposed to be pretty casual and open right?

  • 39. It'll be more soon, though, because our honeymoon spot is on there!

I'm on my phone so I don't feel like scrolling through five pages and 200 locations, but Cape May, really? The only thing I know about Cape May is that my many Coast Guard friends (I used to live in a city with a CG base) say that Cape May is the worst CG base and worst location they've been to. Everyone hates it.
