  • @Swazzle This escalated really quickly!

  • @minskat30 CONGRATULATIONS!!!!  That is so exciting!  I'm about to have to start paying on my grad school loans...ugh!  It's motivating to know that there are lots of people out there who do pay them off!

    @labro - Mmmmm...wine.

    @Swazzle - Unfortunately not surprised about Josh Duggar at all.  I do feel a little sorry for his wife...even if she wanted to leave, she's been taught since childhood that, as a good wife, you stand by your husband no matter what (even if he's an adulterer and a child molester).  It just makes me ache for her.

    @beachyone15 - I used to be a Zumba instructor...and I am giving you mad props for going after happy hour.  I'd have been like..."mmm...cheese fries."

    Good morning ladies!  This morning, I got an email from BF...he was in Amsterdam waiting for his flight to the U.S., which means I'll probably be getting a phone call from him sometime this afternoon!!!  We have been able to talk on the phone exactly once since he left 6 months ago, and I can't wait to hear his voice.  Luckily I don't teach or have any meetings today, so I can keep my phone on and glued to my side waiting for his ringtone.  AH SO EXCITED!

    Other than that I'm working on writing lectures for the next few weeks.  I'm teaching a new class this semester, World Civ, which is definitely a challenge for me.  Still, my students seem great so far--both of my classes have met twice, and they're already comfortable enough with me to ask questions and make comments.  Plus...it's been really cool to get to introduce myself as "Dr. Historian," not "Ms. Historian," which is what I did before I finished the dissertation.

    After work I'm going to yoga and then to Hobby Lobby to buy tulle. I decided before I moved to make a tulle bedskirt for my bed, but I didn't buy enough tulle, so it's just sitting there about a third of the way finished.  I want to finish it before BF gets here.  Then I'll probably go home and try to get to bed early so I can come in to the office early tomorrow, because I have to leave after lunch to go take care of getting my new driver's license and registering my car.  DMV...yay...
  • @Swazzle Friends again!

    image

  • @futuremrshistorian You MAY already know this. But the DMV is just your license, then you have to go to your local Dept. of Revenue for car registration. Isn't that exciting?!?!? ;)

  • Yay for Thursday! I'm so excited- my best guy friend from high school just adopted a newborn yesterday!! He and his wife have been trying to years and doctors said it's nearly impossible for her to get pregnant. They are in FL right now where the baby was born and they have to wait on the state paperwork to release them to come home to MA but they should be on their way home within a week. His picture is so precious, can't wait to meet him and I'm so happy for them!

    @swazzle same here- H is making turkey burgers tonight. We've been eating those instead of beef to be healthier....although I don't think it counts when we each eat 2-3 of them...oops

    @cocobellaf I used to take a small flashlight running with me in the mornings and leave it on pointed in front of me. I didn't need it to see, but it let cars and stuff see me. You have dedication running in 82° heat, I cannot do that shit.

    @peaseblossom55 have a great appointment, hope she gives you some good angles to see!

    @lavenderfields13 Woooo super good luck on the apartment! omg I'm just like you, I can't sleep because I'm constantly deciding exactly where everything in my new house will be placed! And that's amazing to pay off your car & CC!

    @jenjen047 Have an awesome time in NC- that sounds like so much fun!

    @labro Your H is awesome for being DD. I don't drink so I'm always DD. Have a fun time!

    @speakeasy14 oh fuck that I would have driven to McDonald's to pee or something lol

    @minskat30 congrats that is amazing to have that paid off already, especially law school on top of undergrad, wow you rock!

    @twodimes hope your backyard turns out perfect! I'm in the same boat, closing on our house next week and I'm really hoping to have some nice weather into Sept to enjoy our new deck, pond, patio!

    @beachyone15 nice job still making it to zumba, I'm impressed. Hope you like the way your coffee tables turn out.

    I can't figure out how to get my spacing like @beachyone15 so there's not a space between each new line so sorry if this is so long....

  • thank you @mskittydanger @500days!

    @beachyone15 Assembling furtniture is the worst. Hope it goes well!

    @mrsfuturehistorian I hope you get to talk to your BF so soon! I can't imagine going that long without being able to talk on the phone.

  •  @labro - Yeah...I know.  Fun times!  Also the ad valorem tax makes me want to throw up a little.

    @lavenderfields13 - It's definitely not easy.  Luckily, he has more consistent internet connections this time around than he did the last, so we're able to email and iMessage quite a bit, but the connections aren't fast enough to use Skype or FaceTime. I keep staring at my phone willing it to go off, even though I know he's probably still in the air!
  • Thanks everyone! @twodimes no name yet...

    @jenna8984 - So exciting! Your friend and his wife must be so happy :)

    @lavenderfields13 - Thanks! Luckily they aren't from Ikea so it shouldn't be too bad...

  • @jenna8984 - 82 degrees is considered a cool run.  It's normally 90-100 degrees here for late May through September.  Plus, it'll be closer to 78-80 degrees in the evening.
  • @jenna8984 Congrats to your friend! Are they going to have a shower for the new little one? My BFF and her mom went to a "Sip and See" type shower for their neighbor who adopted a newborn. It happened really suddenly too and she had no opportunity to prepare.

  • @KeptInStitches - Last night I made the "Seared Pork Chops & Kamut with Corn, Spinach, & Stone Fruit-Cherry Tomato Salsa". The spice on the pork chops was really good and the flavors of all the other stuff combined was delicious!

  • @labro Yes they are! They didn't plan the shower in stone since the birth mother always had the option to change her mind at birth. But now that it's finalized, they will be having one. Hopefully it's not when I'm on my cruise next month but obviously if it is I'll still be bringing them gifts.

  • @minskat30 That is awesome that you were able to pay them off! I'm impressed you were able to pay them off in your 30s! I probably will still be paying mine when I'm in my 50s.

    @lavernderfields13 Good luck with the apartment!

    @labro & @swazzle hahaha I was so confused and I had to go back and see what started that fight.

    @beachyone15 I'm impressed as well that you made it to zumba after happy hour.

  • Ahhh TK keeps randomly logging me in and out today... Sorry, GIRLS!

    The weather feels amazing today. I didn't even have to use the AC on my way to work. I've got my favorite tea ever (pumpkin chai from David's Tea) steeping now. I've been hoarding it since it's a seasonal tea, but today feels like the perfect day to drink some. I love fall weather. I don't want it to go back to the 100s!

    This weekend we're going to Beaumont with the FILs. I've never traveled with them, and I'm a little apprehensive about the 6-hour drive... Sometimes FMIL can drive me nuts, so a full weekend-long trip with them will be interesting, to say the least. Wish me luck!

    I can't tell if I'm getting sick, or if my allergies are just being ridiculous. Let's hope it's the latter of those options 'cause ain't nobody got time for that!

  • @beachyone15 I actually wikipedia searched .... it's considered a Bay.
    Specifically it's located on a peninsula between 2 bays {but the actual place is called a bay}
  • @eilis1228 good luck traveling with the in-laws!

    @keptinstitches @speakeasy14 thanks!

    @keptinstitches glad you liked your Fix!

    @eilis1228 My MIL completely drives me nuts, it's gotten worse over the years. Or I've just become a bigger bitch over the years. Good luck!
    eta: are you going to be in the car WITH THEM for 6 hours?? Or will just be with them for the weekend.

    what did I miss with the WOMEN, LADIES, GIRLS joke??

  • @lavenderfields13 Yup what @labro said. You know how people will call their baby boys like "my little man"? Well I think it all started when I referred to a baby girl as "little lady". Some people freaked out that LADY is offensive and it means that she should just grow up to be demure and oppressed and all this crap. So then it just snowballed to like every thread where someone used the word lady. Those people who made a big deal about it have left TK.

    image

  • @jenna8984 holy crap how dramatic! I didn't realize being a lady was offensive ;) {although I get it in the sense of transgender, etc etc but that's over board!}
  • @jenna8984 - Ha!  I'm all for women's rights but I call my niece little lady all the time.  I never really thought twice about it.
  • @minskat30 I think it just stems from the stereotype that "little ladies" should be quiet and demure, subservient, etc. We shouldn't call girls little ladies because it doesn't encourage them to be strong women, to be independent, etc. And while I agree with the sentiment, I think you can find a balance between both.

  • when Penny lies on her back for the world to see {but not touch} her belly, I tell her to be a lady and close her legs and be a lady!

    I tell Angel he's a handsome furball constantly! {actually when he's really cute, I refer to him a majestic beast or dapper bastard ;) }
