Happy Friday!

I'm just so giddy today.  We get our new bed.   It's so long overdue.   I hope I'm not setting myself up for disappointment.

I'm working the rest of the weekend.

What are you up to this weekend?

Re: Happy Friday!

  • @lyndausvi jealous of the new bed! We just bought a new mattress that I hate, and still don't have any sort of headboard. I think I'll poke around Overstock this weekend to see if I can find one that I like.

H and I are fighting and I'm crabby today. A lot of little things have been piling up and we're also in a major rut so it all came to a head last night. So I don't anticipate tonight being very fun.

Tomorrow is my cleaning day around the house - the humidity finally broke so I'm going to mop my floor because they'll actually dry now. I also might take the dog somewhere and go on a nice long walk with him. He's been SO naughty lately and I think it's because he's super bored and not getting enough exercise.

Sunday I want to try and get some paint on our walls. We've lived in our house for a year and a half and we still haven't painted anything but the kitchen and the downstairs bathroom. My goal is to get at least one coat of paint done in the living room and maybe the master bedroom.

I'm going to a bridal shower.  I know no one except the bride and her sister- though not that well.  I went to this girl's 30th birthday party a few years back and I probably met some of her friends then who will be in attendance Sunday, but I don't even remember who was there.

Kinda not looking forward to it, but there's a good chance I'm going to skip her wedding (fiance can't get the day off and unless I meet a few people this Sunday and happen to end up at the same table, I won't know anyone- and I'm not a fan of small talk) so I am kind of doing this as a "consolation."

She texted me earlier this week to ask if I thought I'd be able to come (RSVP's are due 9/5)... I dunno.  Maybe I'll just go to the wedding and skip the reception.  The wedding is being held at a Japanese garden and that sounds cool...

That was a long ramble.  Can it be 4:30 so I can go home now?!
  • I had a moment of weakness and signed up for Fios, so I could catch up on tv this weekend :-P  The Custom package is a total rip off though, even though I only watch one channel... Well, two now that I have the channel that shows Bringing up Bates, my new obsession!

Tomorrow my coworkers are meeting in NYC to walk the highline, but I was just there on Tuesday, and my sister is having a birthday party tomorrow that I should probably show up to.

My damn wedding photo books haven't even shipped yet after a week, so I am PISSED.  Hopefully they will arrive before I leave for the beach next Thursday, at least.

Mostly just catching up with work this weekend though!  DH got called in last night, and he's on call again tonight, so if he has to go that will put him at 1 day off in 10, 13 hour shifts, so he is not happy!

Oh and I should start packing for the beach!

  • I remember when H and I got our new bed over 3 years ago.  When went from a queen to a king and it was amazing!

I am probably going to be painting again this weekend.  Last weekend I painted our lower stairwell, which I will never do again.  Holy hell that was a pain in the ass!  But this weekend I am going to paint our guestroom.  I am thinking of doing a horizontal stripe detail (CLICK) with the main color being a warm tan and the accent being a creamy white.

  • This weekend I am going to bask in glorious nothingness! I will more than likely be having a Grey's Anatomy Netflix binge and snuggling with my pups.

The wedding is in 30 days, so this is the last free weekend I have for a long time!

  • cupcait927 - I'm sorry.  That sucks.   I had my meltdown almost 2 weeks ago.  It's been much better.

I'm worried about the bed a little.   We bought a Temper-pedic flex bed.   About 10 years ago I house sat for someone for a good 3 weeks weeks and they had a Temper-pedic.  I wasn't a fan at all.    Fast forward 10 years and I know they have made improvements so we are giving it a try.  We got the flex which is a new product.  It's a hybrid. It's not all form and has some springs and the gel to make it cooler.  We will see.   We do have a 4 month guarantee.  No restocking fee if we return or exchange.  So that makes me more comfortable.

@FeeleyToBe  - I had going to b-showers, let alone one I only know the bride.   Try and make the best of it.

@becklertobe - I am currently in the middle of a Grey's Anatomy Netflix binge.  I am near the end of Season 8, just started episode 20 to be exact.

  • @Maggie0829 I'm going to hire you to paint when H and I buy a house. Your bedroom is awesome.

Tonight I have a ton of running around to do and then might play bingo. Tomorrow is my niece's birthday party. I was thinking about going to my sister's and going out after that, but my MIL is in town and H wants me to see her. :/

  • FRIDAY! She couldn't have come sooner.
My body is at work, but my head is at home. I have a to-do list a mile long

I can't rely on H to get anything done. I've been asking for literally MONTHS for him to put together the two bar chairs that go to our kitchen table and they've just sat there. So last night I brought the box out and will be putting them together myself. He comes home and asked what was in the box. He showed no remorse when I told him what they were.

Might try to prep the dining room and kitchen to prime and paint.
Hanging lights and flower boxes on my freshly painted deck.

    Other random chores.

  • I think I'm might try to finish he blanket i've been working on today.  Not sure if I need more yarn though, so we'll see.  I'm also making my way through Law and Order SVU (seasons 13-15) on Netflix.  I can't believe that's all they have for L&O, but it'll do for now.

I'm in  a ball tournament this weekend, though I still can't run, so I'll have a pinch runner.  Woo, that'll be so much fun.  And brunch for my MIL's birthday.  That, I'm looking forward to.

  • Look at all these painters.    I painted my place in St Thomas, twice.  I hated every minute of it and I'm not very good either. When we buy a new place I'm hiring professionals.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I love painting.  I just hate the prep work and clean up.  So if I could get someone to do all the taping, filling in any holes or dings in the walls and then come back to clean up then I would be loving life.

I painted our bedroom ceiling last year.  Never again.  My neck hated me for a week after that.  So stairwells and ceilings I will leave up the professionals.  Everything else I am cool with.

It's addictive. I'm on Season 3, episode 17. It just keeps on getting better and better!

  • FI is playing in a hockey tournament this weekend so that'll be mostly what we're doing.  Game tonight, 2 more tomorrow afternoon/evening, and then one on Sunday afternoon, but we don't know what time yet.  I'll probably skip Sunday as we are dog sitting a sweet cocker spaniel named Rufus this week, and his parents fly back in on Sunday afternoon.  Thankfully, the arena where the tournament is at has a bar, so that makes it more interesting for me.

Otherwise not a ton of plans... some cleaning, need to go to Costco, laundry... usual weekend stuff.  It's my last weekend of sort of relaxation.... next weekend is friend's baby shower, then it's going to be WEDDING WEDDING WEDDING for the next couple weeks after that.

  • It is our one year wedding anniversary this weekend. I am picking up cake from the place that made our wedding cake today to have for Sunday (lemon cake with lemon filling and cream cheese icing!). Tonight we are getting our grocery shopping out of the way and possibly going to the Chinese buffet.

Tomorrow we are going to a couple festivals in towns near us. One is a Taste of the city where vendors from local restaurants set up and we get to try a bunch of different stuff. The other is a corn Fest where you can get a cooked ear of corn dipped in butter for 50 cents or a quarter or something. They have crafts and stuff too.

Sunday is our anniversary and since we will be out and about all day Saturday are going to stay home and play board games and relax. Dinner we are using a bunch of gift cards and go to Red Lobster where we will eat all the crab. Delicious lemon cake will be waiting for us at home. Yum!
  • Mmmm painting. Fun fun. I need to repaint my bedroom this fall because, I don't know why exactly, the paint around my window-unit air conditioner cracked awhile ago. I had the building engineer in and he assured me it's not water damage. Something to do with the temperature differences since the window can't be insulated with an AC in it like a regular window is. My dad suggested that I also do a lot of patching in the area to reinforce it all before repainting.

Pain in the ass though; I want to color-match so I don't have to do the whole bedroom, so I hope color matching really works.

Anywho, I'm going to a bachelorette party tomorrow night. It's the most poorly planned b-party I've ever been to. There's a difference between being "laid back" (which the MOH and bride are) and "poor planner" which apparently the MOH is. We're going to a show, but the times that everyone would arrive in the city prior to the show weren't confirmed until yesterday. I still don't know what exact time I'm supposed to meet everyone to get my ticket to get in. When we asked about dinner plans, the MOH said they'd "wander and find a quick bite." Um, I am not wandering in the city on a Saturday night with a big group; that sounds like a hangry nightmare waiting to happen. So three of us made proper reservations and will find the rest of the party later. Eff that noise.

  • Thanks for the reminder about a new bed. I need tog et one ASAP. I have been waking up with pain.

I am going to visit a friend who got married, had a baby and moved over an hour away. There will be a few people there so it'll be a nice little lunch party.

PSA for Boston people-Nathan Fillion is in town. I repeat, Nathan Fillion is in town. Some friends ran into him at a play last night. He was in town to see Waitress, which is playing in Cambridge.

Our whole house is painted a neutral color by the former owners.  There was a gallon of similar paint in the garage when we moved it.  So we thought we were lucky and had extra.  So H goes around and paints over all the smudges and marked put on the walls from moving in.  It was not a match.  It is slightly brighter color.

We decided to do a color match from dry wall we took off the ceiling from a leak in the bathroom.  We buy the gallon and H covers over all the previously painted spots, only now this color is a little more gray in tone than the rest of the walls.  Ugh.  But I think our issue was using the drywall that had water damage, I think it effected the color.  We are attempting another gallon using one of the heater vents that was painted with the color.  But we haven't purchased the gallon yet.  Fingers crossed because we don't want to completely have to paint the house yet!

This weekend is my BFF's family reunion at the shore.  And since I'm an honorary member I get to go.  They buy bushels of crabs!  Last year it was 5!  I help cook up the garlic crabs now (they do the garlic and a traditional old bay boil), but once I'm done, I just get to sit on my butt and eat all the crabs!  I can sit there for hours!  It's amazing!  I look forward to it every year!

  • Got to get up super early tomorrow morning and start the 7.5 hour drive back to my hometown for my final dress fitting. Really not looking forward to doing the drive by myself but I've got a couple good podcasts downloaded.

I plan on getting into town just after lunch and grabbing something to eat with some friends that I havent seen in awhile.

FI managed to get his return flight switched so that he flies into our hometown, so I will pick him up from the airport tomorrow afternoon, we'll hit up West Edmonton Mall for an hour or two to get some shopping done, then off to my parents for the night.

Sunday is my dress fitting and then driving all the way home.

Im exhausted just thinking about it.

Woo Hoo for Friday! My brain has not been wanting to work this week! I have so much stuff to do this weekend since my mom will be using my house as a hotel next week and I will be out of town for work so I need to clean, clean, clean, and get the guest beds made. Laundry to get towels done, pack for a week away for work, and work on the poker table that I'm making for FI's birthday since he will be home just after labor day weekend and I don't have much more time to work on it.

    Happy Weekend everyone!

Happy Friday! I've been super busy this last month or so and have been slacking big time on my regular weekend chores (cleaning house, laundry, grocery shopping) so the house is a mess, I have crazy laundry to do, and the fridge is bare. Plus there is wedding shit EVERYWHERE. Tomorrow, I clean, organize, and prepare for... my bridal shower on Sunday!

  • Ugh I hate painting. Years ago when I was single I moved into my brother's house and they were like here's your room- Joe used to live here and he painted the whole thing (including the ceiling) black. That shit took me like 4 coats of white all by myself to finally get the coverage!!!! Then our kitchen cabinets- DH took the doors off to sand and I was left with the job of painting all the insides white. Pain in the ass that was!

I'm not doing much, lunch with a friend and her baby tomorrow. It's supposed to by rainy all weekend so probably some tv marathons.

@lyndausvi yay new bed- hope you like it!

@cupcait927 hope you guys get in a good groove soon and make make up

@becklertobe woohoo that sounds like a great weekend to me

    @littlemushroom happy anniversary!

@thisismynickname dude I'm so with you. Dinner is a priority, people, get your shit together!

@soontobemrsklein that is a long drive. Does he get to drive back with you or does he have to take off flight from that town?

  • jenna8984 Thankfully he gets to drive home with me.He was so concerned about me driving 15 hours alone over 2 days that he called dispatch and asked for his return flight to be switched to our hometown instead of 'home' so that he can drive home with me on Sunday and then be back on duty on Monday. He is awesome.

  • TGIF!  I'm actually working a wedding this weekend with get this:

35 minutes of scheduled spotlight dances!   Plus 3 toasts, a blessing, cake cutting, bouquet toss and garter dance!  For the 5 hour reception (if you count cocktail hour as part of the reception), there is a total of 75 minutes of stop and watch me time.

  • I'm going to be running errands, I'll probably have lunch with my brother, and going to get a color/cut. My last haircut was so bad, I just really need to fix it.
Really looking forward to NEXT weekend though: Girl's night on Friday and a birthday celebration in Austin on Saturday (with lots of alcohol and pool time I'm sure).

I liked the Icomfort.  DH prefered the Temper-pedic.   We will see.

We just got  new sheets a few weeks ago.  They threw in some new pillows.  Although we have a good $500+ worth of pillows on our bed.  It's pretty obnixious.
