Thursday!!!!!

I guess I'll start this since @swazzle is on her way to SA, I'm so jealous.

What's going on in your world today? I'm so glad my work computer can handle TK again, I miss chatting with you ladies.

Last night I made Blue Apron shrimp and grits, it was so good, but I'll never make grits again, it was hard!

We watched Big Brother and went to bed, we lead an exciting life.

It's so cold outside this morning! I don't want summer to end, I'm going to be so sad because I haven't done much this summer.

Re: Thursday!!!!!

  • Good morning!!

    I am jealous of @Swazzle's trip to SA.  Not fair.  *footstomp*

    I've never tried to make grits.  I feel like I should, but in this area of the country (Dust Bowl area) grits kind of have a (silly) negative rap.  My grandma won't even look at grits because that's all they ate during the Depression, plus crawdads they caught in the stream.  I saw a recipe for poblano cheddar grits that looked REALLY good, though.

    I got my massage last night.  It was brutal.  BRUTAL I tell you.  I go back for more torture in 3 weeks.

    I have lots to do today.  But first, more coffee.

    I'm wearing wedges at work.  My coworkers won't know what to think... I pretty much wear flats errrryday.
  • @cocobellaf I love grits, my H likes them too. Growing up, my mom never made them probably because of the same reason as your grandmother.

    The last massage I go (on our HM) it was horrible, I was so sore the next day, but I guess that's normal? I guess that's why I don't get massages that often.

    I'm trying to figure out what to make H for his birthday dinner. We were supposed to go to Niagara Falls/Toronto/Finger Lakes for his birthday but I have some medical stuff coming up, so we have to stay home. I told him I'd make it up to him by cooking a fancy dinner. I'm torn between beef wellington (which I've never made) or the first meal I cooked for him when we first started dating. Both require really expensive cuts of meat, so if I screw up, it's going to be a pain. I know I'm going to make him a homemade snickerdoodle cake.

  • @buddysmom80 - The first few massages I get if I haven't had them in a long time, I'll be really sore.  My masseuse uses some kind of hot cream on me at the end to help with the pain.  But if I stay on my schedule of every 3 weeks, I get to the point where they aren't so painful later.  I'm just now getting back in to a regular schedule.  Last night she did a semi-deep tissue plus I'd been doing a zillion and five squats every day, so she lectured me about stretching out my butt and legs.  I guess my hips were way out of sorts!  I promised I would do a plain yoga work out tonight instead of my normal Insanity/run/PiYo.

    I've never made a beef wellington.  I want to!!  I made filet mignon Skinnytaste style and it was fabulous.  I would like a copy of your snickerdoodle cake recipe...  those are my H's favorite kind of cookie!
  • Morning! Today will be long and difficult. I have to review a document that is 47 pages long and is a grammar and formatting nightmare. I lost it yesterday when I realized there are 116 references and they're not sequentially numbered. Fortunately I'm wearing my new SF dress and a blazer, so maybe a new outfit will help me feel better about it. Class this morning, lunch with my brother. H will be working late so I'll have time to study if I accidentally finish the review.
  • Good morning!

    Last night I went for a walk with my friend and then made tortellini with broccoli for dinner when I got home.
    This morning I actually stayed awake when my alarm went off but could't get my butt out of bed and just scrolled through FB so I was running late as usual. I changed my outfit 3 times and my hair is a mess so I'm just not feeling great. Oh and my allergies are awful and I've got a migraine. Great start to the day. Also, I just got reminded that I have a meeting in less than a half hour - boo.

    @cocobellaF I almost always wear flats too so it's weird when I don't!

  • @buddysmom80 I made BA shrimp and grits last night too. I used milk to replace some of the water so they would be creamier. It was so delicious!

    @cocobellaf Sometimes I tell my H to get a massage because he works so hard, but not if it's going to leave him in more pain!

    I'm feeling super lazy this morning. I purposely woke up early to practice for next week when I start teaching again. Well, I did- but I laid in bed for over half an hour and I'm still not dressed. Failed. I would be 45 minutes into my work day by now. Hopefully I can turn my day around. I want to go to my classroom and clean up but I'd rather wait until my partner is willing to do it with me (I share a room with her). She doesn't want to do it until Monday and the first day of school is Thursday.
  • @TwoDimes - I am not ready for fall either...  because after fall, comes winter.  NO!!
  • Everyone's meals sound delicious.

    @cocobellaf geez lady, you need to stretch more! I would be so upset if I left a massage in more pain than when I went in.

    @keptinstitches good luck reviewing that document! Maybe it won't be as bad as it seems.

    @buddysmom80 I've always wanted to make beef wellington, but I think your other option is more sentimental.

    @lavenderfields13 hopefully the rest of your day is better! My allergies have been acting up too. Stupid changing of the seasons.

    Yesterday was car and house stuff.  Nothing really exciting.  Tonight I have another class than probably helping my bf with working on the addition.  He's supposed to pick up the fridge and stove today, if he can get help, so hopefully I will have a full kitchen soon.  I'm so sick of take out.

    This weekend should be fun.  I think I may get a pedicure after work tomorrow. Saturday I'm having a girl's day with a bunch of girlfriends. We're meeting up for margaritas.  It's the first girl's day in awhile that there will be no kids.  Usually we have it at someone's house and all the girls who have kids bring them. I'm really excited to not be around a bunch of screaming toddlers for once!

  • Morning!

    @buddysmom80 - Mmmmm, grits.

    @cocobellaf - I hate massages that hurt, man, the whole point (for me) is relaxation.  First massage I ever got was by a dude named Igor or something in Budapest.  I was black and blue for months because I didn't know they weren't supposed to hurt.

    @keptinstitches - Ugh, to that paper.

    @lavenderfields13 - I hope you feel better.

    @500days - Good for you for trying to get in the routine early.  I would fail at that.

    @twodimes - Happy hour at your house!  I wish I lived closer.  ;)

    -------------------------------------------
    I have a full day today so this may be a post and run.  Meeting galore starting in 5 minutes.  I also have to fit in spin during lunch because I have an after work event too starting at 5:30.  It should be fun though.  I'm with you @twodimes about this weather...its cold already.  I'm not happy about that.
  • I'm not complaining about the massage... if she doesn't go that deep into the muscle tissue, my back and neck muscles will lock up.  It hurts while she's doing it, but she will end with a nice light massage, some hot cream, and orders for no working out that evening.  I feel SO MUCH BETTER after a day or two.  I can move my neck and head again!
  • @500days I'll have to try milk again the next time I make grits! Great idea!

    @twodimes I have no idea what grits technically are, but they have no flavor to it unless you add stuff to it, like cheese or salt.

    @cocobellaf I'll put a link to the snickerdoodle cake in a little bit, I hope my H likes it, he loves snickerdoodle cookies, so I figured it was a safe choice.

    @speakeasy14 you're right about the sentimental value, but I don't know if H remembers that it was the first meal I cooked for him! I have to ask him tonight.

  • @TwoDimes Grits are stone ground corn. It's similar to corn meal or polenta. The difference between all of them is how they are ground and prepared.

    @buddysmom80 What was so hard about the grits? I make them all the time and on a scale of annoying things to make, they are pretty low to me since they shouldn't require a ton of constant attention.

    Rules for grits:
    1. Always add milk. Just plain water is gross.
    2. Always add butter.
    3. Always season with salt and pepper.
    4. NEVER make Quick or Instant Grits. If it takes less than 10 minutes to cook, it's not real grits.

    I'll think up some more stuff later. My favorite thing is to make grits and serve them in a bowl with an over easy egg on top so I can mix the yolk in. Sooooo yummy!

  • We are closing on the house tomorrow!!!!! So I have the day off work tomorrow and likely won't be around to knot I'll post a pic at some point! SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!

    @buddysmom80 I have never had grits being from the north. When I went to college in Alabama, the day I got there I became friends with a girl in the dorm from Maine and she was like "no matter what anyone tells you- do not try grits- they are nasty". So I just took her word and never tried them, I probably should have lol

    @cocobellaf Do you get massages so frequently for a medical reason or just because you like it? I a jealous, I love them but I'm too cheap so I go like once a year.

    @lavenderfields13 Hope your migraine goes away and you feel better soon

    @twodimes your night sounds awesome tonight, have fun!

  • @jenna8984 - My muscles in my neck and back lock up.  My old doctor just gave me muscle relaxers, but when I switched doctors and talked to my new one about my concerns (taking muscle relaxers all the time?!), she recommended I try massage.  It works for me as long as I go every 3 weeks.  If I wait 4 weeks, my neck will start to lock up.  It's worth the $$$ to me, and my H encourages me to go often, so I don't feel bad about it.  I also have noticed that when I go around my PMDD flares, that it does help reduce some of the physical and emotional "turmoil".
  • @labro, it was annoying for me because I never made them before. I added the grits to the water and they immediately started to clump up. I didn't add milk because the recipe didn't call for it, and we don't keep milk in the house, but I will try that next time. Also, when they were done, they were the perfect consistency but by the time I was finished cooking the rest of the meal, they got kind of runny. They still tasted delicious though, so I'm not complaining!

    Grits with an over easy egg sounds SO GOOD.

  • Morning folks!

    I have been on a serious cleaning spree lately. I'm proud how much I'm going through! We have fabric boxes that hold stuff such as cd's and just random small things that we have yet to find a proper place for. Went through enough that I could toss one of the boxes {Penny decided that she should claw them also .... *sigh*} Once I finally get a shadow box for wedding/shower cards, I'll be able to toss another box. Yay decluttering!!

    Tonight we're picking up "thank you" cards {finally!} and a filing cabinet. Yay more organization! Lol Also doing drawers underneath our bed {again, finally!}

    Tomorrow I'm meeting with a friend and we're going to this jewelry thing. South Hill Designs. Friend of ours is selling them, so we're gonna go take a look. I don't anticipate buying anything but I may pick up a catalog and look for Xmas gifts. I believe my mum was eyeing some also.

    Those curious, the link to the jewelry {there's a few companies that do this}
  • @buddysmom80 and @labro pretty sure the BA grits were instantish because it said they would be done in 10-12 minutes and every other recipe I saw online said longer, like 25 minutes. I have never had them for dinner, and I've only ever seen them on a random breakfast menu. Def not a staple up here!

    Just read on FB that one of my friend's daughter had a tantrum on the way to her charter school today. They start early and their school days are 7:30 to 4:15. That's longer than my work day, so yeah I don't blame your daughter for her tantrum this morning. I would never expect a 6 year old to work that long.
  • @jenna8984 Congrats on closing tomorrow! Also that Marie girl in college is definitely an idiot. Grits are the bomb.com!

    @TwoDimes I totally forgot to mention that I hope you have a fun happy hour tonight! Margaritas sound amazing right now! And you tell that tree to quit its shenanigans!!! It's not fall yet!

    I have nothing to report unless you guys want my stream of consciousness for the day. ;)

  • @Jenna8984 That's so exciting!! Can't wait to see pics

    @speakeasy14 Thank god my friends don't have kids yet- I couldn't deal with kids every weekend- I don't really like them lol

    @cocobellaf My doc just gave me muscle relaxers too- I also have issues with my neck and shoulders- I'm in pain all the time. I don't even use the muscle relaxers any more since I don't think they help. Wish I could get massages covered by insurance! I guess I should consider cutting back somewhere else and put money towards massages since it will help my overall health. It's hard to find a good place too!

  • @500days that is a LONG DAY! I don't blame that kid either!

  • @cocobellaf Ah that makes more sense.  I thought you were just being bad and pushing yourself without stretching.  Since it is doctor recommended, have you checked to see if your insurance will cover the massages?   Sometimes chiropractors do massage therapy and they're usually covered by insurance.

    @lavenderfields13 I'm not a kid fan either.  Luckily these kids are pretty well behaved, and we only get together about once a month.

    @500days that is an insanely long school day, hopefully they give the kids naptime.

    @jenna8984 good luck with closing!  Make sure to AW your house once you get the keys!!

    @twodimes enjoy girl time tonight!

  • @buddysmom80 I am so bummed it's getting cold again. I had to wear pants and a sweater today. Wahh!

    @CocoBellaF I have never had a massage, I am afraid I would spend a lot of $ and not even like it. I wear flats everyday too. I hate how if I wear wedges/heels my knees bump the bottom of my desk. Lol

    @KeptInStitches It's amazing how a new outfit can sometimes put you in a better frame of mind :)

    @ lavenderfields13 mmm your dinner sounds yummy. Did you put it in an alfredo sauce? Ha! you're morning sounds exactly like mine
    @500days when I was in college I would always try to get up early the week before classes. Never worked. lol. The first week of adjusting was always painful
    @TwoDimes Porch happy hour sound like fun! We just finished building our back porch last month I might have to host something too before the weather gets much colder (mocktail hour for me)
    @speakeasy14 yay new appliances! I remember how sick I was of takeout when we were remodeling our kitchen.

    I ended up going over to my friends house to help her with wedding crafts last night. She was super appreciative so I am glad I could help. That same friends Bridal shower is this weekend so I am planning on finishing up her gift tonight. I also have to decide what I want to wear.
    I am feeling nausea today. Morning sickness at work when you are still in your first trimester so no one knows really sucks :/ I foresee ice cream in my future to make up for this cruddy day.

  • @cocobellaf Aaaw that stinks that you have the spasms, I agree that something natural like massage is a way better option that relaxer drugs all the time!

    @labro I know right, I'll have to try them. At a restaurant or something because I'd fuck them up and dislike them due to that.

    image

  • @Jstump2 Ice cream always fixes everything! What flavor are you craving?

    @jenna8984 Hmmm, at a good restaurant yes. I'd actually say I would be picky about WHERE you're getting your grits lol because you can definitely end up with shitty restaurant grits too.

  • labro  We have this really good Frozen Custard place by my house called East Coast Custard.  My go to is a concrete (like a DQ blizzard) made with chocolate custard and Reese cups mixed in. Sooo good.
  • @jstump2 Ice cream will definitely help.  Also, I highly suggest getting some ginger tea, it will help with the nauseau

  • Good morninggggg!

    @cocobellaf BF and I hate massages. Things that are supposed to be relaxing aren't supposed to hurt!
    @twodimes happy hour sounds fun! And I feel you about fall... the weather is hard to hate but I'm DREADING winter.
    @jenna8984 CONGRATS ON THE HOUSE!
    @labro glad to see someone knows what real grits are like around here!! New Yorkers have no clue, there's only ever one kind of grits at the grocery store (instant) and I yearn for them.

    I woke up this morning at my friend's house with her dogs staring at me, and I said good morning to which they both jumped onto the bed and made me into an Irish Wolfhound Sandwich. After I was forced into snuggling with them for a while (oh woe is me *eyeroll*) I got coffee and donuts. Dunkin already has their pumpkin stuff out! I wish everyone would quit rushing fall... I am in denial about summer going bye bye.

    My only real friend around here (who is my dog training teacher and also my new neighbor) is leaving today for FL for the week and I'm sad about it. We have gotten really close the last few weeks and I like having someone I can talk to at any time who is like-minded. I'll miss her! My best friend (who lives out of state) and I haven't been talking much lately. We are both busy and have the same kind of job/hobbies but we also can't agree on a lot of things so it's hard to talk to her about those same things we have in common. So I'm probably gonna get pretty stir-crazy while my new friend is gone.

    Today I have some appointments but for the most part it's uneventful so I am gonna try to get most of my school assignments done. One week of no classes and I'm acting like I have to get back into a routine lol
  • @untouchablets what a wonderful way to wake up! And don't worry, I work near Value Village and they're already advertising Hallowe'en stuff. I wanted to yell "IT'S NOT EVEN SEPTEMBER!!! QUIT IT!!"
    {I may be a tad touchy because my bday is in 9 days ...}
