OP posted one- he's okay, he walked out on the porch earlier so it was a false alarm :)

  • In our old neighborhood, about six months before we moved in, there was a domestic murder/suicide at the house at the end of our cul de sac.  The SWAT team came and everything, and neighbors told us that they shut down the street right at our driveway.  It's like people couldn't wait to tell us this when we moved in.

My brother and his GF just moved to a new house, and a police officer was recently shot in a nearby town.  Overnight, their neighborhood was swarming with cops, they brought in dogs and helicopters, it was nuts.  Turns out some woman made a false report that she had a run-in with the suspects in the cop killing.  So at least they didn't have actual murderers in their neighborhood, but it doesn't sound like they got a lot of sleep last night.

In Northern IL? I heard that on the news this morning! If we're talking about the same story, the woman made up the report to get attention. She's being charged with a felony for it.

That's the one.  Yeah, for the most part I was relieved that there weren't actual murderers running around his subdivision, but on the other I was like "Way to disrupt an entire neighborhood and pull people off the real investigation, bitch."  The article I read said she was a nanny and specifically was trying to get attention from her employer, and I'm guessing it backfired spectacularly.  Who doesn't want a nanny who leads police on a wild goose chase and ends up with a felony charge?
  • i live in a high rise and a couple months ago we got an email from the management office saying the pool deck was closed for the day... my H went to go to the gym that afternoon (right by the entrance to the pool deck) and there were tons of cops and paramedics and management ppl there... he asked one of the maintenance people what was going on and the guy told him one of the building tenants committed suicide by jumping off his balcony into the pool... that was closed bc it wasn't pool season yet... so it was empty...

I haven't gone in the pool this summer...
