Good Lord!!!!!!!! Anyways................ I have no idea what happened there. We'll blame it on Thursday.

The couple of creepy neighbor stories in the annoying neighbor post got me wondering... What is the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you? Heard weird noises? Been approached by creepy people? Felt or seen creepy things? Let's hear it.

For me, it was a couple of years ago when I lived at my mom's house. My brother was away at college, and she and I were the only people living there. Every night, about 2 or 3 am, we would hear footsteps on the stairs. Plain as day. We both heard it. The dogs heard it too. When one of us would get up and check, nobody was there. A couple of weeks later, they stopped. We never heard them again.
ETA words because I suck today.

  • I'm sorry but I'm kind of LOLing at you struggling here.
    Oh I am definitely LOLing!!!

  • When I was a teenager, I had this kinda sorta friend guy that didn't live in the area and I mostly avoided, but was nice to. As I got older and he got into trouble, I realized how creepy this guy was and tried to sever communication. I wouldn't call him a stalker, but I felt like he had he potential to be and he had committed sexual crimes. The last time I saw him was at his grandfather's wake (friend of the family) and he wanted to hang out with me. Told him I was busy, wouldn't give him my address and called it a day. Never heard from him again. Three YEARS later I find out that he'd been arrested at the intersection where my apartment complex was.

Still creeps me out and I don't like that I can't confirm he's currently incarcerated.

  • @ShesSoCold oh creepy!!!! I had a similar situation to that too. There was a guy that I went to school with for many years who had a huge crush on me. He would buy me flowers and write me notes, etc. The crush lasted from probably 5th grade until we graduated from high school. I was always nice to him, but had a weird feeling that I shouldn't be too friendly.

3 or 4 years ago he got arrested for beating a prostitute with a hammer. He said he wanted to be the next Ted Bundy. It was all over local news. Apparently he had been violent with other women as well, and decided he was ready to become a serial killer. I think/hope he is still in jail.

  • All these creepy guy stories reminds me of a creepy thing that happened to my cousin, not me. She went to prom with a guy from our HS that was very well liked. Pretty normal, maybe got a little rebellious jr. and sr. year but nothing crazy. He ended up strangling his wife 4 or 5 years later. Definitely PTSD related... Really sad all around. I can't tell if he's still incarcerated or if he got transferred to a psych facility.
  • I met a guy one weekend 2 states away and he told me he was moving to my city to be near me. He did in fact move to my city like 2 months later. We didn't date or anything. Just like met one weekend and then he went crazy bananas. I didn't talk to him enough to know if he really did move here to be near me or if he was trying to be sweet and came off as Stage 5 Clinger.

Also another part of the story, not creepy, just funny/sad. He was in his mid to late 30s and his bff was mid 20s and the bff starts dating this girl who is 16 (!!!) and he started dating her mother who was like 40. Later apparently the bff had a child with a girl he knew from back home, but had never met the child. He would send money and she would send pictures. A few months after the child was born, she was in a car accident and lost the child. He was about to come see her and grieve their loss with her and make sure she is ok when it comes out she had made the whole thing up and googled baby images to get pictures to send him and had taken his cash and pocketed it.

I sincerely wish I made that up, but my imagination isn't that good... True story.
  • I don't even know which direction to go with this lol. My parents' house is totally haunted. I lived there my whole life and saw/heard creepy things all the time. To this day I can't stand being alone in their house or being there in the dark.

But I think the creepiest human-related thing was when I was in college. My roommate had graduated and moved out, so I was in a two-story townhouse in the middle of nowhere (surrounded by cornfields with a cemetery at the end of the road) alone.

I started noticing odd things. Like I would come home and my water bottle would  be moved, or the light I know I had left on would be off. Little stuff, but something was definitely wrong. I would call my friend really freaked out and she'd tell me to call the cops, but I didn't because I had no idea what to say. "Help, my water bottle is a couple feet away from where I left it!" ???

This went on for a month or two until finally one day I left for class, realized I had forgotten my notebook, and turned around to go back to my townhouse for it. I walk in and there's a man standing in my kitchen. I realized right away he worked for the townhouse's management company. I asked him why he was there but I don't remember what his lame excuse was. He had no actual reason to be there.

Suddenly it all made sense. All those weeks I felt like I was losing my mind because of all the little things that were always out of place. He had been sneaking into my house. In this state it's illegal for a landlord to come into your home without notice, and the fact that he'd been doing it so frequently was totally inexcusable. I called the management office and ripped them a new one but they didn't seem to care that he'd been doing that. In fact, they didn't seem surprised at all.

The rest of the time I lived there I was so paranoid that he'd come in while I was there and do something to me. Obviously he had all the keys, so locking the doors was totally useless. I think I slept with a hammer next to my bed after that.

I'm not sure if I believe in ghosts, but if I did, I'd think my old apartment was haunted. By a friendly ghost.

One night H left at like 2:30 AM to go hunting. Like five minutes after he left, the empty hangers in the closet started clanging against each other. There's no vent near the back of the closet (or in the closet at all) and nothing in the apartment had been or was moving around. The ghost was trying to wake me up because my boyfriend was up and sneaking out in the middle of the damn night!

Then another day I was cleaning and had just finished the bathroom. I came back later and the shower curtain was open like 6 inches. I wouldn't have left it like that. There was a huge shower dragon (stray shower hairs) in there that I'd missed when I was cleaning, so the nice ghost just wanted me to see that I missed it.

A few other odd things like that happened in that apartment.

Edited for clarity because I forget that "shower dragon" is not a coomon term.

  • When I was young-ish, maybe 10 or so, I swore my room specifically (not the whole house) was haunted. Every night when I would go upstairs to get a take and get ready for bed, I thought I could hear whispering and creaking coming from my room. I would also wake up in the middle of the night and see weird shadows moving around it. I became so terrified that I would refuse to be upstairs alone, but I didn't want my parents to know I was afraid, so I would come up with excuses for why they had to come upstairs such as: "I can't reach the washcloth hanging from the shower rod, can you come get it for me?" and "I left xyz in the other room, can you bring it to me?" I don't think they ever realized why I did it.

I always have had an issue with my parents' house, because I never wanted to move there. In my mind (still) they took me from this great house with a nice, grassy backyard AND a pool, and moved me to this brand new house on property where the previous house burnt down. And there was no pool, and the land was all sand so there wasn't a lot of grass. I still do not like the house.

Now that I am a bit older...I am pretty sure I was just hearing weird sounds from the house settling and moving around, and the shadows and any kind of movement were coming from my cats. But my room there is still ALWAYS really, really cold...so. :P

Oooooh that stuff fascinates me!!! I went through a phase for a while where I was really into reading about Ed and Lorraine Warren and the cases they worked. You have to share some stories!!

  • @ShesSoCold, that's not to far from me! (wait, Aurora IL right?)

@becklertobe, I probably should rephrase that.  Was.  Our group is slowly disbanding because all the regulars are moving or finding new hobbies :(  But I have had my fair share of excitement in my past years.  Seen a lot.  Alot of of the area's we go to is straight out of deliverance.

Are you from CT? (nevermind, I see you're from TN) When my daughter was a student at UConn, she went to a lecture by the Warren's. It was so creepy, that she didn't want to share their stories with me.

re: Keurig, it's not uncommon for spirits to attach themselves to objects, I would have done the same thing! Sorry you had to throw it out though.  My fridge makes weird knocking sounds during the night too.  I have sworn they came from the front door too.  FI actually got up one day to check it out.

    eta: spelling

  • Disclosure- I don't believe my house is haunted (meaning the house I grew up in that my parents have lived in for 36 years).

But in the name of "creepiest thing ever," I still have a traumatizing experience from when I was very little. I'd gotten out of bed and saw into the hallway a shadow moving along the wall. That memory is very vivid and freaked me the fuck out. I was positive it was a ghost. Our house is very old, very creaky, lots of settling noises, random mice in the attic or walls, bubbling heating system... You name it, I heard it, I freaked out. In reality, surely it was just headlights from a passing car playing off something in the next room.
Another time I heard thumps outside the front windows and was convinced someone was trying to break in. In reality, it was surely just large icicles falling off the roof.

And oh, you know the movie Pet Cemetery? You know, old house on a busy road out in the country by a Cemetery? No joke, that's exactly what my parents' home is like. That movie scarred me for life. Yes, I am an impressionable fraidy-cat.

I bet it was!! I didn't have a clue who they were til the movie The Conjuring came out. When I saw it was based on a true story I started researching. I had to stop reading about their cases though because I was starting to get freaked out. Lol.

The creepiest thing about Annabelle/Conjuring is that the doll in the movie did not look like that.  Annabelle is really a raggedy ann doll.

Who didn't have one of those growing up?!?

Edit: reading up on this some more, can you tour their occult museum?  WHY?  I do a lot of crazy shit, go to a lot of crazy places - but I would NOT want to go into their basement/museum.  I don't need anything attching itself to me.

  • When I was a kid, we found a man hiding in my parents bedroom closet. He climbed out when he thought we were asleep, but my mom was awake and saw him. She screamed as he was climbing out of the closet and woke up the house. My bedroom door was open and he ran right past my room and out the sliding door. Police thought he was probably there to rob us since we had been out that night and we interrupted him when we came home so he ducked into the closet.

Apparently, he got in by lifting our sliding class door off its railing and removing it, then putting it back when he got in.
