Monday confessions

I totally just ate cold pizza for breakfast, and 3 cups of coffee.

This is my first full week back on the busy, full-time academic schedule at work and I'm really not in the mood. What is your confession today?

Re: Monday confessions

  • I finally returned two movies to Redbox the other day and the bill was $40 because we had them so long. I didn't even tell DH because he always gives me a hard time for not returning movies.

I was at the beach last week, and I left my dog with a random dog sitter who looked like an OITNB cast member, and I was almost SICK with worry about her.  I confess that I am terrified I might have mama bear tendencies like my insane sister!

ETA: I also feel like I wasted too much money on vacation... and we're starting FPU on Thursday!

Oh we do need it, but we don't/can't have internet and I am not a fan of their movies available through the mail options.

  • Confession: I had my makeup trial this weekend- done by my friend who is a make-up artist, and I didn't like it :(  Now to come up with a gentle way to tell her...  sigh.
  • I hate the team I'm currently on.  I wish I had switched gyms.

I talked to my best friend yesterday and realized I tell DH more than I tell her now.  She's lived in a different city far away for at least a decade now.  I miss having close friends.   All my regular group has kids now and I rarely see them cos it's hard to find childcare for them.  We still pick up like no time at all, but I really only see them 1-2 times a year and some of them live 3 blocks away from me.  I sometimes feel like we're left out cos we don't have kids as that all they talk about now (makes sense).

I'm having a shitty week so far.  :)

I understand. I completely miss having my close friends near me. I have some good friends, but the 'group' FI and I were a part of before we got engaged has split up...People want ME to patch it back together, when I much prefer having other married friends to hang with. Is that terrible?

  • I stopped at Starbucks this morning and got a venti, even though I keep saying I'll start eating healthier "next week". Sigh. But I need the caffeine.

I also really want H to go hang with his guy friends tonight. I love him a lot, but I can't remember the last time I was alone in the house for any significant period of time.

It drives us crazy! We can do some stuff on our phones and anything else we have to do, I do at work or go to my dad's. It's such a pain.

But, but, why? I never really think of North Carolina as being so rural internet isn't an option but I guess maybe bits of it are?

I wish I had the picture here - when H and I went to the Smokey Mountains, we passed a billboard in NC with a picture of a UFO on it advertising "internet from space!" It was hilarious.

Yeah, where are you in NC @emmaaa? My BIL has family in some really remote sections of NC but they all have internet as far as I know. And my parents live in the waaaaay back-woods of NH and they used satellite internet for years.

It looked great in person but photographed badly?

I got invited to a close friend's bachelorette. Her sister/MOH didn't want to do it so a friend of ours offered to throw it. She's planning a big weekend of activities. I made up an excuse about family in town so I wouldn't have to devote my entire weekend and tons of money to this.

Are there things you like about it? It's super hard for me to critique other people's work. But I would try and find a few things you like and tell her those are good. But then the things you don't like, try and get some concrete examples or changes.

Like "The lipstick was too red. After looking at it all day I think I'd like something pinker.
Or  "That eyeshadow is a nice color but I think it makes my eyes too dark. Can we do the same tones just in lighter shades?"

Unless you hate it all and don't know what to change. Maybe then you need to think about getting a new MUA. That would be super hard, but you want to be happy with your face on your wedding day.

It actually photographed well, but in person was just so... heavy.  And orange.  :(

I like that idea of pointing out the good- I loved my eyeshadow- she actually made my hazel eyes look more green, which was kick-ass.  I'll point that out.  But we DEFINITELY need to tone down the foundation and switch to a pink blush (to avoid that orange look).

    I'm feeling positive!  Thanks, ladies

It's a good -bad-good sandwich; when in doubt use that formula!
"I loved the way you made my eyes pop, but I'm afraid the foundation was a little orange and heavy for my taste.  Overall everything photographed really well so I think with a small tweak to the coverage and blush we have perfected the look!"

I don't want to upset any moms, but my secret confession today is that I'm happy my sister goes back to work after her maternity leave today.  I know today is going to be extremely difficult even though her boss is letting her come back for 1/2 days all week so she can ease back in, but I really feel like having adult interaction and getting back to the work she is so passionate about will be good for her in the long run.  There are only so many things a 16 week old does to talk about, and I'm secretly hoping this means maybe we can start talking about other things too soon (including my life and the rest of our families lives).

I learned that there is a fine line between make-up looking good in person and photographing well.  It needs to be on the heavy side to look best in photos. But, I agree that it doesn't need to look orange. I thought mine was a bit heavy in person, but it wasn't "OMG horrible" heavy. And maybe it was just that it was heavier than I'm used to. At my trial, I thought it was really heavy, but as I went through the day I realized that it really wasn't too bad or outrageously heavy. But, it looked amazing in the photos. Trial and error is kind of the point of the make-up trials.  I'd set up an other trial with her and tell her what you liked and didn't like so you guys can tweak it.  If it still doesn't look right, then maybe search for another MUA.

Oh, no it's not the fact I live in a remote area. I live in central NC, so like between Raleigh and Greensboro but in the country.

AT&T is available where I am but apparently all the "ports" are full. I'm not sure what exactly it means but basically they aren't providing internet to anyone new and aren't adding ports because they are trying to expand U-verse.

Time Warner Cable is available in certain parts of my area, which I would love to get. Except it doesn't come down my road and they don't plan to.

I refuse to pay $75 for satellite internet that apparently has awful connection according to everyone out here who tried it.

We had a mobile hotspot through AT&T when DH was in college and our cell service is bad out here so the hotspot was awful but got him by to check email and do light internet searching (plus it was $50/month for only 5 GB). I cancelled it the week he graduated.

The worst part is, we're only 45  miles from a few other big cities.

Yeah, I would lower  your expectations a little.

My sister has a 17, 16 and 13 year old.  It's only been in the last 2-3 years it hasn't all been about the kids.   And that is okay.

Oh I know your part of the world pretty well! My sister lives in Greensboro and my mother is in Chapel Hill. I've taken almost every possible back road through there to avoid I-40 when driving between them :)

Ugh, how frustrating about the internet though! And I agree, satellite is not a great option. My father had it for a long time because it was the -only- option and he needed internet for his job, but it crawwwwwled, and cut out altogether fairly frequently. They ended up getting to be part of a pilot program for the state of NH where they subsidized putting fiber optic cables into remote areas, so now they're high speed and it's awesome!

I've never found any new movies on Netflix streaming, but we have the DVD delivery service and it can be a few weeks behind Redbox but usually within the same month they have the same new releases. Might be worth a trial unless you rarely get movies anyway
