Basket for the men on day of

I'm planning on sending my groom and the guys a gift basket to enjoy before the ceremony. Snacks, and a bottle of whisky.. what else would you include? :)

  • While it wasn't a basket that was delivered, I sent my H over to his mom's house (where he & the guys got ready) with 2 bags full of stuff.  I sent over his favorite soda (more of a soda fan than a booze fan), Wegman's Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies, gummy candy, chocolate candy, bagels, brownies, and some other things I've forgotten about.  I would just make sure that there is a bit of everything that you send over so however many people are getting ready there, will be able to have some.

Pickle juice with the whiskey, and mints for before the ceremony ;)

Lint roller, and stain stick (in case  they spill said whiskey on their shirts).

I think the snacks and whiskey is good, as long as there's a variety of snacks. Like cookies, beef jerky, chips, fruit snacks (am I going to hell for suggesting a human actually eats fruit snacks?!) etc.

I'm assuming they'll have bottled water or something like that available to drink besides the whiskey?

  • Sigh, I'm the mean one who requested no alcohol before the ceremony.   Actually at my brother's ceremony the priest was very adamant about no alcohol before the ceremony as it could be considered invalid.   One or both of the couples say they were impaired and was not thinking correctly.   Meh, I kind-of get it.

Anyway, we just had snacks.   I'm not sure if DH had any vodka before, but I'm thinking not.   It helped that one GM is in AA, another one just doesn't drink.  My brother and another GM do drink, but not a lot.    Had we had added alcohol it would have been vodka.

Now not to be a total meany, I arranged for trays of everyone's favorite drink waiting at the end of the aisle.. (ceremony and reception at the same place).  As in there was an individual drink waiting for each WP member, not a tray full of one drink.  The minor kids had sparkling apple juice.

So you do not think I neglected my guests.  They hit the bar up before the ceremony.  Some of them had their drinks with them during the ceremony.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I sent visine and carbs. They wound up with plenty of booze without any assistance from me. Not in a basket, but in a grocery bag stuffed into the side of DH's overnight bag.
  • Agree w/ having water or gatorade or something.  In our case, H and his BM stayed up wayyyy too late the night before drinking (he hadn't seen his BM in 3 years, he lives in Germany) so they would have welcomed some gatorade and maybe some ibuprofen or something.

I've also asked my fiance not to drink before the ceremony.  He doesn't go crazy, I just don't want our first kiss as a married couple to taste like beer (that's what he'd drink).  Since we're getting married at 11:30am, I don't think he's going to want to start the day with booze anyway, and he seems on board.  We'll be going right to cocktail hour right after a few last minute pics so he can booze up as much as he wants then.

  • That's for the ideas, ladies!

I asked him not to be drunk but I told him a drink or two to calm his nerves is fine- I'll be having some champagne myself to calm mine so it's only fair.
