Cups Sewn in good or bad idea

I hate hate hate strapless bras. I can not find one that finds right and holds the girls up. I'm in between a 38dd and 38d so neither work.
The ladies need support. Would cups sewn in work and hold them?
This is my dress.

Sewn in cups normally work, for that cup size I believe.

My other suggestion would be that from the pictures it looks like you may actually be able to get away with a normal bra underneath. Or perhaps a bra with clear straps. Just another idea if you weren't 100% on sewn in cups.

    Also, your dress is beautiful.

  • Thank you. I forgot about clear straps I might try that.
  • I'm a 36c and just had to have the cups taken out at my fitting yesterday b/c they just didn't work and am going with a strapless bra instead (the kind that is seamless and wider at the bottom so it covers the top of your rib cage as well). The strapless felt much better than I thought (I hate strapless bras, too) and she is sewing some hooks in the dress so it hooks at the top of the bra to keep it all in line. Still not sure what that'll look like but I'll find out in three weeks.
  • I was going to wear a strapless bra, but when I tried on my dress, it didn't really look goods - there was spillage where there shouldn't have been.  I tried a couple different sizes before deciding to do the cups sewn in - so much better!
  • I'm a 36DD and my dress was very very similar to yours, only a bit more sheer in the back which prevented any kind of strapless bra.  Along with the structure inside the dress, I also had cups sewn in and the girls felt very safe and secure and ready to go all day/night :)

  • Great question. If I were you, I'd also ask if the sewn in cups could have underwires. I find underwires to be the different between the girls staying where they belong and ... not. Even if you aren't a huge fan for regular clothing, underwires can be very helpful.
  • If I were you I'd go with a long-line bra long before sewing in cups.  I'd also opt to have the clear straps sewn in because even the best bra/fitting - eventually gravity will win!  I was around your size when I got married - By about 6:00 I was already starting "the yank" around the top of my dress to keep it up.  Some clear or decorative straps (from JoAnn's) would have been greatly appreciated by about 10-ish...
  • I ended up going cup free/bra free/long line whatever free with my dress. But it was already strapless and the bust definitely had some amazing built in support. I'm about the same size as you (38dd) and didn't have an issue or ever feel the need to yank up my dress. It stayed in place all night.

I would definitely consider cups if it would help you feel more secure. I tried a couple different long-line bras and didn't like the shape it gave me, and as it turned out, was never necessary anyway.
