How was your weekend?

Saturday night was pretty mellow as DH had to work.   I was recruited to work a wedding on Saturday for a few hours.  That kind-of sucked.   Not because of the wedding guests, it's just the mangers are pretty bad and make work harder than it needs to be.

Sunday was football, football and more football. We always have guests over to watch the games.  We are pretty transited so we all have different teams represented.

My Eagles beat DH's Jets.  He wasn't too happy. Especially since he benched Sproles and the Eagles defense in his fantasy league(s).  :p

DH is off today and tomorrow.   It's strange going from him gone 7 days a week for 4 months to him off 3 days a week. We have to find a new normal.  Well until his schedule changes again in a few months.

Next week we leave on vacation. I can't wait to see most of my family again.  I say most because one brother bugs me and always has drama.     I keep saying this is for my mom and I can handle them for a few days.   Yep.  that is what I keep telling myself.  If only I actually believed it.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Re: How was your weekend?

  • It was just OK.  I put together the new bar cabinet we bought w/ wedding money, but then as I was finishing it up (like literally putting the shelves in it after it was fully done), I realized that 2 of the center support pieces were put in backwards.  So the shelves didn't fit.  So I had to disassemble almost the entire thing to fix it, and then redo it.

Sunday, I finished our thank you notes.  Now just need to seal and stamp them.  The suckiest part of this weekend though was H was weedeating in the backyard (near some pea gravel, which is never a good idea) when one of the pebbles flew up and hit the sliding door, breaking the outside pane.  I called around today for quotes and it looks like it's going to be close to $600 to fix it since we have fancy Low E glass :(  Now we have to figure out how to get the guy out to measure because H is out of town (great timing) and I can't take any time off work right now.  Hoping one of our neighbors can help us out.

  • I had a great weekend. Friday night my sister and I went down to her vacation "house" (trailer) to close it up for the season. They turn off the water in the community in October and we're going to Bears games the next two weeks so we had to close it up. We sat around and drank until like 4 AM Friday night and then came home Saturday. Saturday night my best friend had a small party so H and I went to his house. Yesterday we got up early to go to my sister's for the football games.

Have fun on your vacation next week, @LyndaUSVI!

  • It was a pretty uneventful weekend.  We got a headboard delivered Saturday and I cleaned/did laundry.  I also watched Pitch Perfect 2.

Sunday H and I went over a friends house for the Ravens game.  We lost :( and our record now stands at 0-3 (first time in franchise history).  So needless to say I don't have much hope for the season.

  • On Friday, I had a project about an hour away, right near this historic mansion I had always wanted to tour, so H came with me to work and then we took the tour.  We went out for ice cream afterwards at the place I went when I was a child, also about 45 min from home.  Then H made pizza for dinner.

Saturday we had a family cleaning day, and H baked an apple pie.  Right when I started making dinner, H got called into work.  He was VERY upset that he has to work almost every weekend now with the poor management at his work.  Hopefully some decision is made soon so they can either let everyone go or hire some extra help.

Yesterday I had to make up a bunch of writing from the week.  I don't know how the heck I waste so much time during the week!!

  • Aside from falling and scraping my foot, knee and hand - it was OK

FI and I were walking towards a restaurant and I guess my foot hit the uneven ground (huge dip in the sidewalk) and I went DOWN.  My knee, top of my foot and hand where I tried to break the fall is all cut up and scrapped.  I have weak ankles and fall every 3 years or so.  I guess I was due.

  • I had an alright weekend - mellow Friday night, chores on Saturday while H was at work. Spent Saturday night alone with H, drinking bourbon, watching Star Wars IV in Blu-Ray, and playing ping pong. Which was excellent.

On Sunday, we invited H's friend over to watch football. Friend and his wife (with whom we are also friends) are a cause of constant drama in our lives and are going through a somewhat volatile divorce while semi-living in the same house with their 3 year-old. Wife had texted my H about coming over Sunday, and he said that we had already invited her soon-to-be ex over, so she should come over on Monday night for football instead. Well, she didn't take that hint that that meant we DIDN'T want her to come Sunday, and so she just came over without warning. We were pretty annoyed, as was her H, as we'd made it clear that we didn't really want both of them over at the same time. All they do is bitch about/to each other, and H and I are super sick of it. If it weren't for their daughter (our god-daughter), we would probably be distancing ourselves from both of them. It's exhausting.

And then I forgot that we told our neighbors to come by, so we had a full house until about 7pm. Once everyone left, we watched the super moon eclipse and Fear the Walking Dead, which was a nice way to end the weekend.

  • My weekend was ok, it left a bad aftertaste. Friday night I babysat my almost 1 year old nephew for a few hours while my sister and her H went to a kid-free wedding. It was fun and not too stressful. I had been a little worried about being in charge of the kidlet for so long with no really good backup (H had previous plans so he wasn't home).

Saturday it sort of took a turn for the worse. Pretty good morning, but mid-afternoon I learned that my cousin passed away. He was only 22 and it's still sort of hard to believe. I don't think it will be real until tomorrow at the visitation.

I still kept my plans to go to a Harry Potter pub crawl with my good friend. H decided to join us a little last minute. It was a good night, it was fun to see all the people dressed up. And there were some really good deals at good bars, but right at the end of it H got super crabby and basically insisted we go home. And then we got into a ridiculous and large argument (because we were both drunk). It's so unlike us and I don't really know how we ended up there. Sunday after we woke up we were both so apologetic about it, but it escalated really quickly and we don't really argue. So I've spent a lot of time the last few days thinking about how I can stop it from happening again. But it's weird because I thought H and I were pretty much drink-for-drink and I didn't feel as drunk as he obviously was. Perhaps he just couldn't deal with the absolutely awful rail at the last place, who knows.

Anyways, Sunday was good. We just stayed around home and did a few chores. Watched football and baseball. Now I just have to get through this week.

Weekend was pretty good. Started updating my resume and getting ahold of old references.

Sunday H and I entered a chili cook off and we got 3rd (out of 15) so that was pretty awesome hah.

Also got some wine drinking and baking done, and then made hot chocolate and drove out to the middle of nowhere to watch the blood moon/lunar eclipse.

It is so so weird to be home today and not at work. I've spent most of the day filling out  job applications and trying to get everything set up with H's benefits.

Also, I really need to update my username...

Up and down. Went home to Maryland, saw friends, got a lot of unsolicited wedding opinions from FBIL's wife (she should totes get to pick our caterer). Ate some crab cakes, mmmm.

  • Prior to this weekend I had zero water pressure. Like I couldn't water my yard (which took 4 hours for front, and 4 for back because I had to move the sprinkler like 7x) and do anything else. Even use the bathroom. So while FI was out of town, I had a plumber come out and fix the water pressure which took all day Saturday. He also fixed our problem with the water backing up from our hose behind the washing machine and re-planted a bush he had to take out when ripping up the front yard.

We also had a new gate put in to replace our chain link. It's a gorgeous cedar gate that matches our neighbors. They came by today to bleach the rest of our fence so we can stain it Wednesday.

We put in our patio and laid out all a dump truck full of pea gravel. Bought a chiminea and some pinion wood and had a fire last night while doing a wine tasting for the rehearsal dinner this coming Friday. We also put up some cafe lights and some solar lights around the backyard to get some lighting. It's so beautiful!

I had a cleaning person come by today and deep clean our house and got our plumbing inspected. It's been quite a weekend! I'm ready for bed and it's 7pm...
  • NowIamMrsKlein  - Loving the name change!!

My weekend was ok.  We took my Dad and my Mil out for dinner Friday, since my Mom is out of town.  Sat was a mix.  Dad phoned us about 6am to take him to hospital (kidney stones, so he's totally fine), but we stayed with him and I missed my monthly massage.  :(  It was a 90min one too.

But we went out to an alumni Uni event and ate cookies and chocolate bark made out of cricket flour.  Then we hit up an art festival, which was actually pretty cool

And I finished all of my homework on Sat, so I took Sunday off before practice.  I have 3 major assignments due in the next month, 2 on the same day (though it's for the same class, one being a presentation, so I'm sure my Prof would give us an extension on the paper).  I can't wait for the next month to be finished cos life will be easy after that.

  • Friday night I was supposed to have an outdoor movie for work but it was raining so we cancelled. Since I was off and DH was off this weekend, we went to Raleigh to visit one of DH's friends from college. We ended up hanging out at his apartment and then went to a country bar for a little bit. It was about 3:00 am before we got back. The next day we went shopping because I wanted a new fall dress for dinner that night with no luck.

Saturday night, we went to a really nice Italian restaurant for MIL's birthday. We got her two tickets to the UNC vs Duke football game (she is a huge fan). We all had a blast.

Sunday we went and got wings and watched the 5 football games that started at 12:30 or 1:00. It was nice to see the Panthers win this week.

We have been trying to stay out of our house because the air conditioning unit got stuck by lightening and isn't currently working. It has been about 3 weeks and our landlord still hasn't fixed it, replaced, or even had someone come look at it. It wasn't awful at first because the weather was so nice but now it's rainy and humid and we have to leave the windows open and everything feel damp. I'm just really frustrated that he hasn't even attempted to do anything about it.
