I spray mine so I don't have that problem!

I also have the Sorel Joan of Arc with the faux fur and I LOVE them. I've had one pair for nearly 6 years and they've held up through winters in Buffalo and New Hampshire. I do what PPs have said and tuck my pants in to commute and change at work. Definitely worth the investment.

I also have a pair of fleece lined Tretorn rain boots. They are great if you don't have a ton of snow, they're much lighter than the Sorels but much warmer than normal rain boots.

Gotta love that Swedish quality.  Glad that Tretorns are still going strong.   I used to have a pair of rubber boots (I think I might buy a new pair) and wore the tennis shoes in the 90's.  Now I see Superga's everywhere...
