Do I still buy a gift?

I am the only out of state bridesmaid, and I think the only out of state guest of the whole wedding. after buying a dress, plane ticket, and renting a car I have spent hundereds of $$ already, and I am fairly strapped for cash as it is. Would it be poor taste to not buy a gift?

  • In my family, we ALWAYS brought a gift to the wedding, even if it wasn't an expensive gift. The thought is what counts, especially as a bridesmaid. Most people have registries with even $5.00 items on them. If you really can't afford it then keep in mind that a gift is not required. You could just get them a card.

There's a 1 year window on gifts too. Bring a nice card to the wedding. If your circumstances change in a few months and you can afford a gift and still wish to send one, go for it.

    Gifts are never required.
  • I would give a modest gift, possibly something you make yourself?  The amount of money you spend is irrelevant.   The money you spend on a gift is not important, either.

  • Gifts are always optional, but if you do decide to give one, it need not be of any particular monetary value, as long as you can afford it without breaking your budget. A nice card or homemade item (if you and/or the couple is into crafts) would do.
