How much to sell dress for?

I'm contemplating selling my dress (haven't decided for sure).  It's Sottero & Midgley Jane and retails for $1298.  I can't seem to find it anywhere online used.  I had a decent amount of alterations done, including hemming, so I know my options are limited in terms of who can buy it.  But, it's a super trendy style right now (lace, cap sleeves, mesh lace back, etc) so I figure someone out there may be interested in it, but may not be in a few years when styles change.

So, how do I come up with an asking price?  I'm not so delusional to think I'm going to get anywhere near full price for it, but it would also break my heart to sell it for like $200.  If that were the case I'd just keep it.  So, any ideas?

Re: How much to sell dress for?

  • I looked on preownedweddingdresses and there was a similar dress as yours (Francine) listed for half the original cost.  I would probably not ask for anymore then 60% of the original price of your dress.

  • I'd probably list it for $600 and see what happens. Someone could make an offer and you might have to lower it if you truly want to sell it. Personally, I plan to keep my dress for sentimental reasons.
  • You can donate it to charity and write it off on your income taxes.

  • Thanks ladies.  I'm pretty torn because I want to keep it for sentimental reasons, but I could really use the money and I feel silly keeping it just hanging in my closet.

Well I am not sure how the websites work, but you could always list it and then if someone does want to buy it you can then decide what you want to do.
