don't know any bakeries on long island, but if you're willing to travel (they deliver), i recommend carlo's bakery in hoboken. they are the bakery on cake boss on tlc. not only are their cakes beautiful, but they are the most delicious cakes i've ever had. they made a beautiful cake for fi's bday party, with his photo on it, and it was a huge hit. and the photo cake is like the simplest thing they can do. not sure if your wedding is kosher, they are not kosher or parve.

I've heard good things about The Rolling Pin Bakery in E. Setauket. My aunt got a cake from them for my uncle's 60th and it was delish! HTH!

The Rolling Pin Bakery is E. Setauket is making our wedding cake.  We haven't gone for a tasting yet.  It is the bakery our place uses.

Be careful with Rolling Pin - my venue uses them too and we just had their cake at another wedding we went to and we were NOT happy. We are using Torta Fina. They have locations in Commack and in Babylon - seriously the best cake we've ever eaten. I got one for FI's birthday before we were engaged and he turned to me and said, "THIS is our wedding cake."

Nicky where are you getting married? For my sisters wedding we did a cake tasting with Rolling Pin. It was horrible. Plops of cake in cupcake wrappers. David the baker at the rolling pin told me that the cake I wanted, called Berries and Cream, which is simply what it is for 90 people would be between 500-800 dollars. That is a rip off especially when I could get the sheet cake for 90 people for 135 dollars. The decoration would be the same and the amount it feeds would be the same. I was really disgusted with his blatant ripping off of people. The Bonne Boungerie in Port Jeff is also a disaster. They tried to pass of crisco with confectioners sugar as butter cream. I am an event planner and I told them that so I feel like they definitely should have known better than to pull that crap with me. St. Honore in Port Washington is fantastic.

I am getting married at the East Wind and the cake is included.  I was told that I can call them for a tasting.  Then 6weeks before the wedding I sit with my wedding planner at East Wind and we pick out all the details.

I am going to talk to a place in Greenport tomorrow.  And they are amazing.  I will report back on that.  In terms of really crazy grooms cake, do you mean great tasting or visually stunning?

I spoke with Butta Cakes in Greenport today.  The owner's name is Marc and he is fantastic.  I have already had their cupcakes and I love them.  His pricing for a buttercream cake is $3.50-4/person  which I personally think is an excellent price.  They will also do fondant but I personally think it is a waste of money and not very appealing to eat.I will be meeting him on Saturday so I will update you on that as well.

Yes! Please share what you did not like about the Rolling Pin. It's one of the two choices our place gives us - them and Create-A-Cake. I haven't contacted either yet, but would love a heads up about Rolling Pin and things I should look out for.Nickymel, where are your getting married?

We're living in MD now but my fiance is originally from LI and that's where the wedding is.  The venue that we're having it provides the cake through Black Forest Bakery.  Need opinions!!

I know many great bakeries here on Long Island -- try Madame Butterfly Cakes in Babylon Village.   There's also A Taste of Home Bakery and Cakes by Jay.   Too many to list here....!
