I find it sketchy that you have to pay the venue in full. How soon is the wedding? Within a month or two? That's just weird to me. Also, is there any reason that you're waiting until December to announce?

As for your family members, maybe it's just me, but I'd want my parents and siblings at my wedding and I wouldn't have the attitude of "they'll have to work it around our date." I'd wait to set a date until after I announced just in case there are dates that absolutely will not work for your VIPs. But it sounds like you don't care who comes, so in that case, whatever floats your boat.

Yikes! I deleted my post because I saw that I had posted in the wrong forum, but thank you for replying. 

The wedding is in September 2016 - yes, this is the only venue where I came across this.  We are waiting until December 2015 to announce as the engagement ring is being custom made and will only be ready then. 

We do care about our immediate family being there and believe that nine months is sufficient time for them to ensure that they can be there.  The "work around the date" was in reference to the extended family members. Our fear is that we will lose the venue while waiting for everyone's opinions.
