I love how they play it off like we're so rude and think she's dumb since she's only been engaged a few weeks. It wasn't a wedding question, it was a common sense how do I treat people question? Doesn't matter if it's a birthday party, dinner party, work event, etc. You would have thought someone who claims to have dietary restrictions themselves wouldn't need to get outsiders opinions on whether they should provide a variety off options in an effort to be a good host. And the responses about adhering to etiquette like it's a bad thing. Since when is having consideration for people you are hosting a horrible thing? Complaining about that is such a weird and backhanded way of bragging about not giving a shit about your loved ones...why would you brag about that?

What's weird is... I'm reading through that thread and while I agree the petty arguments over the dumbest shit that happen here are pretty lame... I don't get where some of these women think we would tell someone that they HAVE to have a bridal shower.  And the lady that said The Knot made her cry?  WTF.

^^ LOLOLOL.  According to these ladies, it's possible to get married without a wedding.  UGH.  That pretty much sums up so much that is wrong with how people view marriage today.  They think a "wedding" is just some kind of party or celebration separate from the ACT OF GETTING MARRIED.  Getting married = wedding!!!!

Are some of the people on this website a little too harsh in their delivery sometimes?  Yes.  Do we tend to jump on the brides who offer terrible ideas all at once?  Yes.  Are the people on this website "bullies" who are just stuck on "archaic" etiquette?  NO.  Just because you don't want to accept it doesn't mean it's not proper etiquette.  These women need to put their big girl panties on and deal with it.

What I think is funny is that the one thing that we, as a whole, are super rigid about is treating people well. We DGAF about flowers or monogrammed napkins but you better have a seat for every ass. It might come across as old fashioned and stuffy the way it's sometimes delivered, but these people aren't getting it. It's not about "traditional" or etiquette (because some people dislike that word) or cookie cutter, it's about not being a dick. That's all we want for people. To not be a dick to others on their wedding day. If that makes me a stuffy bitch, oh well.

That is always the most fascinating part to me as well. Take care of the people invited to your wedding first, take care of the way everything looks second. When I was planning I appreciated this site because strangers can and should tell you the truth without worrying about your feelings. If I had a terrible idea, I would rather someone tell me on here why it is terrible than treat my friends and family like crap. 

I went to two weddings this past year where there were issues with food and guest comfort (one couple kept everyone waiting for two hours after the ceremony and no one was allowed to eat until they arrived, the other had really really terrible food and the bride didn't hire staff to do things like set-up/take-down so WP and guests had to do it). I told both brides their weddings were "lovely!" "so much fun!". In truth they were two of the worst weddings - no - events - I've been to.

My favorite poster is the one who got a knottie to *gasp* admit they tell posters things they wouldn't say to their friends face. That's the whole effing point! If a bunch of strangers can save you from doing it to your closest friends and family, you won't have to worry about them saying it behind your back.

I'm admittedly the newb who originally thought TK was mean. But then I slept on it, and came back and reread and realized people had good questions/points. So we talked to our VIPs and reviewed our budget to make sure we could throw a wedding that was as convenient as possible for our guests considering our date. I shudder to think I could have become a SS without it.

Exactly this!!! We were all once newbs who probably got our feefees hurt by the big, bad etiquette mavens. Hell, I left three or four times after being spanked for being a special snowflake and giving bad advice. Then I got my fucking act together and come back to occasionally smack some sense into others.
