What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Re: My money shot

  • WOW. You have no idea how much my husband wants to go there some day. He wants to "ride the fence."

  • This is the 747, which is so powerful they have to close the road to cars when it takes off.    People go flying.    We had to go to catch our flight and didn't see it take off, but I've been there a bunch of times and have seen it take off.   Never road the fence though.

The 737 or Airbus still throws out a lot of thrust.  Sand, hats and sometimes people go flying, but not like the 747.  They do not close the road when they take off.

  • Oh, that's really good to know. I'll tell him that. I'm sure we'll end up there "one day" (DH is an AvGeek) and I'd rather not have him blown away by a 747.

  • Oh man, I wanted to go here so badly when I was there a few years ago. But we were on a cruise, so only spent a few hours there.  This is such an awesome pic.

  • It's pretty cool there.     there were a bunch of cruise ships the day we went.  It was crazy.

note:  we were in Anguilla and flew out of St Maarten.  So we didn't have a choice on which day we went.  Actually we took an earlier ferry to drop our bags off and go over to catch the 747 land.

  • That's one of my bucket list places.
  • Here is a better view of the beach and the bar.

  • When was this? We were just there in September and the beach is/was gone! The whole part in your last photo where the yellow umbrellas are- that was not there. It was all giant boulders all the way up to the street and the water went all the way up to the street. We were really disappointed because we wanted to swim but of course we still had an awesome time at that bar and got great pics.

Sept is storm season.  There might have been a storm far off causing a surge.

ETA - when I was there you could not even see the road it was so crowded with cars and people.

  • Yea same for us with the crowds...this was at 8:30am...by the time it was 11am when the planes started coming, it was jam packed madhouse lol. So fun though!

@jenna8984 We were in St Kitts and Nevis for our honeymoon in late September, which is a little south of St Maarten. The lady we rented from said there had been severe storms in the Caribbean a couple of weeks prior to that, so that's probably why it was so flooded there. We didn't have to deal with flooded beaches, but there was lots and LOTS of sargassum seaweed washed up from the storms.
