Wedding Party

Help - how to walk the party

My fiance and I each asked 5 people to stand up on our respective sides (including MOH/BM). I have a close male friend standing on my side. One of my other bridesmaids just backed out due to time and money constraints. I'm debating whether to ask someone else to stand up or to go uneven. I'm leaning towards being uneven, but I'm not sure how to get everyone down the aisle and back with so many males in the group. I have a couple thoughts, but hoping someone has a brilliant idea I fall in love with :)

Re: Help - how to walk the party

  • Uneven sides are fine. Asking a replacement will hurt feelings, so don't. Options for walking include: have the groom's side just file in from the side to stand and not process, bride's side walks individually; both sides walk individually, one from the groom, one from bride, repeat; one of bride's attendants walks with two of groom's attendants (if two men are paired, they can just walk side by side).

  • They just walk. Next to each other, arm in arm, not touching, one by one. Whatever they want or a blend.
  • We had uneven sides and a guy on my side. What we did was just have them grab their SOs (or in the case of my MOH she brought her sister) on their way back down the aisle. I love the pictures we got because they will now mean so much more than just being randomly paired up with someone they don't really know.

  • Not sure if your father is escorting you down the aisle or not, but the bridesman could escort her down the aisle to her seat...  Another possibility is that he leads the way then brings the aisle runner to the back of your ceremony area for you to walk down..

Your officiant may also have some ideas.

  • I had 4 BMs, husband had 5 groomsmen.

    My processional went like this:

    Groom walked up
    4 groomsmen each walked up
Best man walked my mom up
    MOG and FOG walked up
    Flower girl
    4 BMs each walked up
    Then me and my dad

    Recessional went like this:
    Me and groom
    moh & bm
    bm & gm
    bm & gm
    Gm & bm & gm
    parents etc...

So you don't have to have everyone paired up, or you can triple up! It was cute having one of my bridesmaids escorted by 2 groomsmen! There's no right or wrong way, and no don't replace a spot :)

Have all the men, even those on your side, process in together and go stand up at the altar with the groom.  Then process the BMs down the aisle one by one, then you walk down the aisle.

You don't need to pair people up to process and recess.

But if you do (pair people up), it's not like they suddenly turn gay if they're walking next to someone of the same sex.  Two people can WALK next to each other regardless of their genitalia.  I was a groomswoman in my cousin's wedding.  I processed in with a bridesmaid.  We didn't touch.  We just walked in side by side.  I think we held hands and skipped when we were introduced into the reception, but we were a couple drinks into the cocktails by then.
  • Thanks all - I appreciate your ideas! We have decided to go uneven for sure and now have a couple of ideas of how we can make it work for us. I was never worried about 2 guys walking together or I wouldn't have asked a guy to be on my side :)

Okay but now I'm confused, how else are gay people made?

I had so many BMs, that to save everyone the pain of a super long processional I had them walk down the aisle in pairs.

The church ladies where like, "What?!  You aren't having them walk down the aisle escorted by a GM?!"

    Newp!

  • OP - I had two extra BMs to my Hs GM.  The last two BMs processed out together and this was in a Catholic Church - no one cared.  So I would just have your WP walk out two by two, regardless of gender, and then have the last GM process out by himself.  Or if you have a wide enough aisle, maybe have the last 3 people process out together.

But no need to overthink things.  These types of things always work themselves out effortlessly at the rehearsal, as long as you (or someone else) doesn't try to micromanage it.

  • I have uneven sides too.  4 men and 6 ladies.  Two men will have the honor of a lady on each arm and they walk up & down the aisle
