Re: DECEMBER

  • @cu97tiger, pumpkin kahlua sounds awesome.

    @goldenpenguin, glad you're back!

    @labro, congratulations on paying off the student loans!

    What are you looking forward to this month? Christmas! Star Wars! Sing-along Messiah, decorating, a bunch of other stuff.
    What are you dreading about this month? Not much. Yesterday was the five-year anniversary of my grandpa's death, but I sense that he's not going to ruin my whole holiday season. I was listening to Christmas music and tearing up the whole time, but that's going down now.
    Do you decorate for the holidays? Inside, not outside. My goal is to get the tree and my nativity set up this year. My dad's aunt (really, she's more like my grandma) gave me the pieces for my nativity set when I was a kid over a number of years and it's one of my favorite decorations.
    Do you have any December/holiday traditions? Cookies, though that's mostly my mom. I help when I'm around. We decorate Christmas trees at my mom's place the weekend of Thanksgiving. Christmas Eve supper is hot dogs by candlelight.
    Is it cold where you live? Not cold enough. We got 4-5" of snow over the last 24 hours and it's just around freezing, so now it's melting and packing down.
    Are you taking any time off work this month? I'm taking the other half of Christmas Eve. I get half of Christmas Eve and all of Christmas Day from my office. If I need additional travel time, I'll take it.
    How's your shopping coming along? Good! I've bought all the gifts except the ones for a couple aunts and uncles (they're getting Panera bread and that's perishable).
    Any holiday or winter-specific things you like to eat/drink? All the things, thank you. Christmas cookies - my mom developed an almond spritz that's to DIE for. Peppermint mochas. Eggnog. Lutefisk (one ceremonial spoonful on mashed potatoes in celebration that there are other things on the plate). Russian creme.

    @untouchablets - Don't give up egg nog. Give up everything else instead! ;)

    @minskat30 - I am so sorry that you're going to have those stressful events this month. I can't believe someone did something so bad that you literally moved away. I can definitely understand why you're not looking forward to the conference.

    @beachyone15 - Holy shit, a shopping day? That sounds amazing!

    @beanbot2002 - Why does everyone hate Michael Buble so much?!? I love his Christmas music. It's nothing over the top, but that's kind of how Christmas music is supposed to be. Everyone else makes it way too over the top, and the really impressive singers add so many runs that the tune is barely recognizable!

    @MissKittyDanger - Why is Christmas so rough for you? I'm sorry that you're not able to enjoy the holiday. I'm an atheist and Christmas is my absolute favorite!

    -------------------

    I didn't get enough sleep last night, but I miraculously look pretty incredible today. Winning Tuesday! Plus, I now think it's acceptable to leave my car radio on a Christmas station, so I was singing my heart out on the way to work this morning.

    What are you looking forward to this month? Christmas and seeing my family. Taking a ton of time off. :)

    What are you dreading about this month? I'm not necessarily dreading it, but I hope that the fact that BF and I are taking 11 days off together doesn't mean that he's expecting to spend every minute of it together. I really want to get some good relaxing and reading done, which I prefer to do alone.

    Do you decorate for the holidays? This is my first year! And I don't have nearly enough stuff. I know I'll build up my collection, but it's so hard not to just go out and spend a thousand dollars up front, haha.

    Do you have any December/holiday traditions? My little sister and I open our presents to each other on Christmas eve, but we weren't together for it last year. Other than that, just watching a ton of Christmas movies.

    Is it cold where you live? Cold, yes. Snowy, no.

    Are you taking any time off work this month? 11 days off in a row! But it only requires me to use 5 days of vacation, thanks to the holidays. :)

    How's your shopping coming along? I'm almost done! Although my dad wants some pouring spout thing that he can install on his brewing pot, but I have no freakin clue what would be best. That's about all that's left though.

    Any holiday or winter-specific things you like to eat/drink? Egg nog punch. Desserts with cranberry.

    Quit drinkin' the Kool Aid, sister. The bubble guy (as Bean calls him) is shit. He's trying to ruin Christmas.

  • @minskat30 - lots of hugs to you and snuggles to Raj! I know he'll pull through like the champ he is! It'll be a long recovery, but so worth it.

    @untouchablets - I feel you with the gym thing. I do so well in the spring, then the summer hits and screws up my schedule, and then I'm a trainwreck until I get so fed up that I get back at it. The kidney stones this fall have not been helpful.

    @speakeasy14 - H has created the Christmas Eve midnight gift tradition by bugging the hell out of his parents until they're so fed up that they give in. It's usually 1 am before everyone leaves the party, and then we sit around and open all of our gifts then "sleep in" on Christmas Day.

    @GoldenPenguin - yay for the upgrade and spending time away, but what in the actual  hell is the deal with  horrible beds at a "resort"?! That shouldn't be allowed to even be a thing. I'm sorry your booty is all icky.

    @AlPacina - I'm with you on the Michael Buble! I love busting out his Christmas album each year. Suck it, @beanbot2002

    But seriously.... Bring me some please? You've got kids. You've gotta have some. I haven't had it in forever.

    @audrewuh -

  • My thoughts on Michael Buble?

    Fuck that guy. His voice drives me absolutely mad. Not EVERYTHING has to be showtunes, Michael.

    And thank you for turning my favorite gif back on me, haha. Well played.

    But what you said makes a lot of sense for me. Showtunes are my #1.

    ETF: The Gif wasn't tiny at first. But then it was later. So I changed it.

    @swazzle -

    Does anybody like the Pentatonix Christmas music? I feel like I adore half of it and despise the other half.

  • Has anyone heard "Christmas in Hollywood" by Hollywood Undead or the song "Frosty the Pervert" ? {consider this your warning on both ... lol}
  • @AlPacina - I don't think I've heard any Christmas music by them.

    I'm drinking the kool aid too, I love Michael Buble, not just at Christmas.  I want to see him live so bad but his tickets are freaking ridiculous.

    @speakeasy14 - His live show is absolutely incredible. His live band puts the music on a whole extra level.

    I went to his show around 2003-04. My mom wanted me to have a good seat, so she bought me a ticket in the 5th row. But then she wanted to save money, and she'd "enjoy it anyway" so she got herself a cheap ticket. Her seat was literally in the highest up row of a sports arena. I felt SO BAD, haha. But I wore a cute outfit and hoped Michael (or his guitarist) would notice me. Pretty sure they were both significantly shorter than my teen self. Neither one of them called me up on stage (or backstage), though.

    @swazzle - I think their Christmas album was number 1 or 2 last year. Look up Pentatonix Carol of the Bells. It's a good example of their style, and it's one of the ones I love.

    ETA: @MissKittyDanger - I have not heard Frosty the Pervert, but I may have to look that one up, haha.

  • I was browsing Yahoo News {not always worthy but they're taking from "Canadian Press" - which is worthy} and randomly thought of today's questions.
    I think this really explains what winter is like here lol {especially last couple years}

    I'm OBSESSED with Pentatonix (H took me to see them in concert a couple years ago for my birthday) but their Christmas music is WAY too religious-focused for me. #flammable?

  • Every day that I go home and don't have my SS present I am relieved because I still haven't sent mine. Hopefully tomorrow. . . I am DETERMINED not to send it Friday.

    @GoldenPenguin - Re: Pentatonix LOVE..... What is happening to Mitch? It's like everyone else is either staying the same or getting cooler (Kirstin), but Mitch is piercing things and getting emo haircuts and I just don't get it. He's the most talented. But as weird as it is, I can't really watch their new videos because his appearance makes me uncomfortable, haha. And I used to be an emo, so that's saying something.

    @untouchablets - I would expect nothing less from you. ;)
