Downton Abbey horror

An organization in my town is having a "Downton Abbey Costume Ball".  It is two hours, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and they request black tie and formal dress!  The Dowager Dutchess would have something very nasty to say about this!  Tickets are $35 each, and there will be wine tasting.
Nope!  Not going!

Re: Downton Abbey horror

  • If it was after 6:30pm would you go? Seriously, this is crazy. They are probably having it early so more people can go. It's not really a big deal.

  • What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I'm with Maggie- you want me to put the effort into Black Tie and it's only for 2 hours, with no food!?!?

I do see what you are saying though CMGragain, the style of the event does not match the plans of the event.
  • I thought black tie starts at/near dark, which means 4:30 is getting there right now.

But, yes, I would skip because why bother dressing up that much for two hours.

Black tie (or white tie) starts at 6:00 PM.

Huh.  I thought it was sundown or 6 pm, whichever is first.  I know I've got stuff from my mom on this, but no idea where it's packed right now.
