Smaller than expected

we are having a small wedding of 50 people.. However many of our closet friends do not want to travel so we are going from 50 to 25 just family.  My FI is reAlly upset would it be improper to invite other people for the uncertainty... How upset would you be for the no shows.

    I honestly wouldn't worry about it.  I would be happy to have plenty of no-shows!  Then again, I am not a fan of people making a fuss over me.  Don't invite other people just because you want to make sure 50 people are there.  Plan for 50, then party with whatever number actually comes out to celebrate with you!
