NWR: Phrases you hear that make you bust out song lyrics/quotes

The girl who sits next to me just said "Brrrr it's cold in here" and instantly I sing in my head "there must be some Toros in the atmosphere" ala Bring it On.

Another favorite is "Stop" and I usually go with "Hammer Time" as opposed to "Collaborate and Listen".

Movie quotes happen a lot too thanks to my H. "You're goofy"/"Don't piss me off Art" happens a lot bc he often calls me goofy.

Any other common speech phrases you can help but equate to song lyrics (or cheers) or movie quotes? I know I do it a lot and laugh to myself every time.

  • My friends and I are guilty of all of the Bring It On quotes - they're cheertastic (or the movie was on reruns way too often when I was in college).

Also, we're good for Sex And the City and Pretty Woman too.  I bought my wedding shoes at DSW - was looking for and budgeted for designer shoes and my best friend said so they're made by nobody and I responded with "And the bride wore shoes by no one."

Whenever I hear "huge" or "big mistake" I automatically "have to go shopping now!"

Any conversation about ribs and we launch into Dead Giveaway.

  • Whenever anyone asks a question about "what to do with" or "where to put this" or anything related, I immediately go to "bend over and I'll show ya" (Christmas Vacation). I say that probably several times a day.

If I (or my husband) say "you're the best", we complete it with ".... around!  Nothing's ever gonna get you down" (Karate Kid).

  • My mom and I are both bad about this. I know it's annoying to most people, lol. I told my mom once that she had a song for every word/phrase and I would try to think of one she couldn't do. I eventually came up with "armadillo" and she returned with "Amarillo by Morning" by George Strait haha. Close enough, mom!

  • LOL to the Bring it On reference! Yes, I always think of the Toros.

Two of my favorite movies are Mean Girls and Pitch Perfect. I just told my coworker today, who bitched about this 30 day diet he's on, "You don't need to lose three pounds, oh my god you're so skinny."
Anyone says, "ExCUSE me?" I think, "Aca-scuse me?"

My grandpa used to sing it "Amaretto by morning"
  • Whenever anyone says "It's too hot!" or something similar I now immediately think of "hot damn!" from Uptown Funk... it's kinda terrible.
  • hahah love the Bring it On, I think of that too! Usually my first go to for STOP is -in the name of love! If someone says "I'm so excited!" I usually can't help but bust out the Jessie Spano version...

    I'm loving all of these!

@pambeesly524 if one of us says I'm hot or it's hot in here the other always says "so take off all your clothes".  Thanks Nelly

@jenna8984 I can quote SBTB for days. I have a tshirt that says "I'm so excited, I'm so scared" LOL

  • Unfortunately I have odd ones. Not "indie movies you've never heard of" odd but like...lifetime movies that everyone else would probably be too embarrassed to admit they recognize.

Confession: I freaking love Lifetime movies. And TV shows. Lay it on me, @lnixon8

  • My coworker was just on the phone and said "If you need anything else, just holler back" which immediately got "Holla Back Girl" in my head.

There are also posters around my office building encouraging people to say hello and smile in the halls (yeah, not the best place to work), and one of them has a guy that happens to look a little like Lionel Richie and a speech bubble that says "Hello"... You see where that's going.

  • All of these, but I'm throwing in what my H almost does all the time.
He was raised Catholic {now Atheist} so when he see's Star Wars and they say "May the Force be with you" he has to bite his lip to not say "And also with you"

For me, anything that resembles a song I'm rehashing lyrics.

Oh my god, me too!!! My dad was a Presbyterian pastor when I was a kid, so "And also with you" is a completely ingrained response to "May the force be with you". I am glad I'm not the only one who does this.

Also, this one is super random and work-related. I work in the jewelry industry, and anytime anyone mentions the gemstone morganite, I get "Oh what a night" stuck in my head. Probably because my coworker and I have an ongoing list of jewelry-related puns, and "Oh Morganite" is one of mine.

  • Last night I told DH he has a cute butt. Then I started singing "I like your butt and I cannot lie..."

Today at work I was thinking about a negative situation, "and then I remembered" the silver lining, and started humming Favorite Things from the Sound of Music.

Still have it in my head, in fact....

  • When the dooms day "The world is ending" starts up, all I can think is "Pour whisky, brandy, vodka"

Thankfully, I've not yet said it out loud in public as that might not go over very well.
  • I always have a song in my head.  Not surprising, since I was a musician.  I'm partial to Broadway songs, and I can go for DAYS with one stuck in my brain.

"Everybody Ought to have a Maid", from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
"Springtime for Hitler", from The Producers!  (Yes!)
"Brush Up your Shakespeare", from Kiss Me, Kate

    ...
and now there is that identity theft TV commercial that makes me hum "Getting to Know You" from The King and I.

  • Whenever I say "sooo," you know, in the lead up to saying something else, H will say "a needle pulling thread" from the do-re-mi song in "The Sound of Music."  I will always say right back "what I'm still a rockstar" from the Pink song. H hates Pink. So whenever he's making fun about my "sooo," I'll get that song stuck in his head.   A couple times I've even said, "I won't say it, but I know you're thinking it now, so my work here is done."
