Here's why you always plan for 100%

FH and FILs were discussing how there's a family member who never responds to event or party invitations and never accepts them or shows up. Apparently said family member also complains and gets deeply hurt when they're not invited. We invited this family member and their SO anyway, but were told not to expect an answer and that they definitely won't come.

...Guess who I got an RSVP from accepting for both themselves and their SO? Good thing we planned for 100% acceptance. Although overall our acceptance rate is way lower than we expected it to be, we've got a great group and I still have so much to do. I haven't even gotten my dress altered. Oops =/ But yes, lurkers, plan for everyone!

  • Yeah, I had 2 cousins (and SOs) who never attend local weddings.   I would have put money down they were not going to attend my OOT wedding (3 hours from them) and a 2 night hotel room.

Both cousins and their SOs were at my wedding.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

It must be that they heard we're TK members and they know it's guaranteed they'd be fully hosted ;)

  • We invited a lot of DH's family friends to our wedding, many of whom are elderly and live more than 2 hours away from our venue. I didn't think they would come, but of course I planned for it just in case. They ALL came! One couple even drove over 9 hours.

Thankfully I knew better than to plan for less than 100% also! :)

  • I had exactly this conversation tonight! I don't want any last minute surprises like that. Though if I'm honest I am hoping for a few declines from some from the 'obligation' side of the list!

  • DH had an uncle that traveled from Oregon to Louisiana for our wedding.  He never goes to family functions and they were pretty sure he wouldn't come to this one.  DH hadn't seen him in over 30 years.  But, he showed up for our wedding.
