Wedding Invitations & Paper

timeline of wedding invite vs bridal shower invite

I may be overthinking this but I wanted to get some opinions since you all seem to more often than not have answers...

Is it awkward for the wedding invitations and shower invitations to go out at the same time?

My wedding is May 7 and I am planning to send the invites out 8 weeks prior.

My bridal shower is April 3 and I asked my mother (she is hosting along with my BMs) when she thought she might be sending out those invites and she said probably 4 weeks prior which is the same time as my invites.

Should I request that she sends them a week or so before?  Should I send mine a week before?  Should I not worry about it at all?

I love you all so much for helping me with my random etiquette/ invitation questions?  I don't know how anyone plans a proper wedding without TK forums.  Thank you Thank you!

  • My shower/b-party combo is April 23 and wedding is May 28 so I have the exact same "issue" haha. Honestly, I can't control when the invites for either of those parties is sent so I'm just going to send mine at 8 weeks and not worry about when the others are sent out. I just wanted to validate your question because I had the same awkward feeling. :)

Thank you for the validation!  My mother told me she thought I was sending the wedding invites 'awfully early' and when I explained that 8 weeks out is normal and I need time to receive the RSVP's back before the head count is due to the venue she just said 'Oh.'  I just wanted to be certain this was just awkward in my head.

Hahaha!  You should tell your Mom that on this site there are brides who are wanting to send their invites out almost a year before their wedding date.  Now that is 'awfully early.'

6-8 weeks is definitely the appropriate timeline for sending out invites.  Even 10 weeks is okay, but anything before that is pushing it.

  • You're all sending the invitations out at the correct time so you're fine.
