What are your favorite comfort movies?

What is your list of movies you watch over and over for a goid laugh, a good cry or just because you want something in the background while you do chores?

My current list (it changes from time to time)

1. Practical Magic
2. Galaxy Quest
3. Boondock Saints (1 and 2)
4. Smokey Mountain Christmas
5. A Knight's Tale
6. Sense and Sensibility
7. The Avengers

It's all over the place, just depends on my mood.

Re: What are your favorite comfort movies?

  • I have a few different lists here depending on the situation:

When I'm sick and just want to watch something that will pull my heart strings, I watch "Ever After" or "The Little Princess".

If I just want to "veg" on something, or put it on in the background, I'll watch a Star Wars movie, or even sometimes a Twilight movie (I KNOW the Twilight movies are poorly written and laughable sometimes, but I still find them mildly entertaining, and they're the kind of movies you don't have to pay attention to).

If I just want a darn good movie to watch, something I KNOW will be really good even though I've seen it a million times, I put in one of the batman movies, die hard movies, or Jurassic Park.

I agree that medical dramas are great when sick.  I watched every episode of ER while stuck at home for 6 months after multiple surgeries several years ago.

  • Since others are saying TV shows, mine are Friends or America's Next Top Model.  H will watch Friends with me, but he cringes every time he catches me watching ANTM.  It's a guilty pleasure...

  • This thread is making me remember awesome movies I had forgotten about!

SATC 1&2 are awesome (if I were home with a prolonged sickness, such as bronchitis, I'd binge watch the series too!).
Legally Blonde is delightful. Same with Mean Girls.

DH and I recently (well a few months ago now) started watching House on Netflix, we're on season 6 of 8. Man, it is a commitment.

When I was in undergrad I used to watch all sorts of bad TV- I called myself the Queen of Trashy TV, because I seemed to know a lot of pop culture references and whatever was in the headlines because of it. I had a small TV in my room and would often have it on the background while doing homework, or just to kill a few brain cells after studying for so long ;). I watched all the "Housewives of..." shows, all the wedding shows on Slice and TLC, and Millionaire Matchmaker. Good stuff ;)
  • OP I've never seen any on your list, except Avengers!

Will & Grace & Big Bang dvds

Anything Reese- Legally blonde, Election, Fear

Anything 90s- Jawbreaker, Bring it on, She's all that, Drive me crazy

    Anything mafia- Goodfellas, Godfather, Departed

I'm currently working my way through Gilmore Girls on Netflix and H says I'm obsessed. I watched it a bit back when it was on tv and remember catching reruns maybe 5 years ago or so when I would be on the treadmill or home from work or whatever. I feel like I'm invested and just want to keep watching until I'm done.

Ooohhh... just looked them up and those sound awesome.  DH googled my name over the weekend and was flabbergasted that the first thing that came up was my Goodreads list, which has 257 "want to read" books on the list.  Looks like it's time to add a few more... and these may move to the top of the list. Thanks!

  • @princessleia22  keep in mind it's not a normal Alice series, it's years later - descendants of Alice basically. I fully feel that Tim Burton should have done this version!

    6 months? Yuck :(

After my surgery 2 years ago, I binged on HIMYM.

Now DH is sick, so I put on his comfort movie .... Bourne Identity.

Yeah, it sucked.  I had back surgery, then got a deep infection from surgery, resulting in another surgery.  Every time they thought it was gone and took me off antibiotics, the infection returned. It took 4 surgeries and a year of antibiotics to finally get it under control. 3 of the surgeries were spread out just enough to keep me home 6 months straight... then I was only down for a couple weeks with the last surgery. Luckily, I was early 20's and able to stay with my parents during it, had minimal responsibilities, and had a very understanding job, who luckily was having a slow year so it didn't hurt them too much to have me gone. Unfortunately, this was before Netflix or internet downloads existed.  But, TNT showed 4 hours of ER every day and Blockbuster helped keep me sane.

  • Oh man... I have a few.

    1. Mrs. Doubtfire
    2. 10 Things I Hate About You
    3. Mean Girls
    4. Dirty Dancing
    5. Any Twilight movie
    6. Save the Last Dance
    7. Any Lord of the Rings movie
    8. Labyrinth
    9. The Princess Bride

And the worst of them all...

    10. New York Minute. Mary Kate and Ashley at their finest (most terrible?).
