Losing weight from stress/ shoould I wait to buy the dress?

I found the dress of my dreams a few weeks ago and decided then that I would come back and buy it two weeks from then (which is about now). Since then I have lost about ten pounds accidentally (I stress-lose) and it doesn't seem to be stopping. Should I buy in my current size, expect to gain it back, or wait for my weight to stabilize before investing in a dress? I had planned on losing 10 lbs for the wedding, but I was hoping to do that over the course of 10 months or so, not all at once, so now I'm not sure where to expect my weight to be in October. The time span matters because my body always looks different if I lose weight slowly vs quickly. Is altering expensive?

  • If you think it will come back, then buy your normal size. It's easier to take a dress in than letting it out. That being said, if you lose a lot of weight(35-50#s), you may not like how it looks and it may be difficult to take in more than 2 sizes.
  • I don't know. Depending on where you buy your dress you definitely still have some time to order. I would give it another month to 2 months if you plan on buying from a boutique and see where your weight is at then. I'd be worried about re-gaining weight lost due to stress and probably order at closer to my normal size. You have a lot more options for taking a dress in than for letting it out.

  • Buy in your usual size.  I think it's easier to take a dress in than it is to let it out.
  • I'm usually a 4 but none of my fours fit at all now (I'm not too tall so ten pounds changes a lot) but I think from these answers I will see where my weight is at in about a month since I have time, and if it's stayed pretty steady I'll get a two but if it's a little unpredictable I'll size up to a four and take it in if needed. Thanks!

Is it common to lose 30-50 from wedding stress? Oh no! I have no idea where I would buy from in that situation, I would probably spend a day drinking olive oil lol :)
  • its common but don't get a smaller size  a dress will still look good taken in two sizes anything higer than two sizes then the dress will not look the same. i thought i was going to loose 30 and it didnt happen i stress ate . i ordered my dress in the size i was at measurements. the bust was super huge and had to be taken in 3 times to get it to fit right even with the corset top it still had to be taken in.

i would get the 4 and have it taken in
