Mid-Atlantic peeps - PSA

Re: Mid-Atlantic peeps - PSA

  • It also seems unfortunate that a lot of the areas that will be hit hard are ones that aren't as equipped for it.   At least here in CT, getting 6-12" happens at least once a year.

Which reminds me of the time I said to a customer, "The snowfall wasn't as bad as we thought.   It was only 6".   *I* can handle 6 inches!" :o

I hope everyone is staying safe during the storm.
  • We got about two inches yesterday and then heavy rains and wind overnight decimated it. It is snowing again and building back up, maybe 1-1.5 inches right now. We have got a lot of freezing rain and sleet, though, so the roads are still pretty rough.

My friends in the Richmond, VA area have 9 or so inches, my parents have 12+, and FH's cousins in Northern VA have 17+.

  • We didn't end up getting anything! Hallelujah!
The snow line is something like 20 miles south of me.

  • I grew up at the Jersey Shore and saw pics from my hometown this evening. The flooding is just awful. My mom is okay but haven't spoken with my dad. His house barely made it through Sandy.

They got it bad.  Worse then Sandy in some places.     Hope you dad is okay.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We were pretty well spared on the CT shore. I hope others are OK.
  • My town got about 3 feet.  Many of the neighborhoods/side streets have yet to see a plow.  Our neighborhood had our plow crew come out yesterday morning and they did enough to allow people to get out.  Of course people are bitching and complaining and it makes me want to scream.  Like hello we just got 3 feet of snow, do you expect it to just all be moved to your liking with a snap of our fingers?

And Ocean City got slammed.  A huge fishing pier was destroyed and many of the wooden walkways/stairs from the boardwalk down to the beach are broken apart.  Plus a crap ton of flooding.  The residents down there will be shoveling sand while we are shoveling snow.

  • @Maggie0829 - glad to hear you are well!

    Any update on your dad?

I was finally able to talk to him. He is so inaccessible. They are fine and the house is fine. Whew! The island is still a total mess, but he was thankfully a bit more prepared after Sandy.
