I got cabin fever

Ok, so I travel A LOT so I really don't have any right to say this -  but there's something about the hope of Spring that gets me into a better mood.  FI has a crazy schedule, and his 2 days off in a row change weekly, so every 7 weeks we have a full Saturday and Sunday together.  And that's if he doesn't work late on Friday because his day off starts at midnight (they can still call him any time before that).

Our next full Sat/Sun is March 19th and 20th.  I have a nice lodge booked on the water in Wisconsin since it's a state he'd never been to (and we live right next to it).  And then on the way back to Illinois we hit up the jelly belly factory and the cheese castle!

How is everyone else coping with cabin fever?

Re: I got cabin fever

  • I  may be the opposite of most people but I am such a homebody. I love a good vacation now and then but I love being at home and doing things around my house.

  • Not really.

However DH is leaving for Vegas in 10 days.  Then the day he returns  my nephew flies out and we are taking him to Utah.   Since I know we are going away soon I'm all good.   We also leave for a week at the end of April to the east coast.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We love little weekends away. Best way to renew and reenergize! I had serious cabin fever before Christmas, but since then we've only been home for 25 days. I think I'm traveled out and will enjoy being home for a while!

  • I used to permanently be on travel for work. I loved every second of it. We also traveled a lot for leisure, but I have been limited by my health lately. In the past, it would drive me nuts to be sitting around. But, I got sick. I'm also in a new role at work and I never go anywhere. H is the one who is always gone. Plus, the last month, I've been out on medical leave. I've got mixed feelings now. I have enjoyed my time at home, but I feel like I need more to do. I'm the type that needs to work, so it's a good thing I'm heading back to the office on Monday (and New Zealand at the end of the month!)

  • Cheese castle? I think that might be my favorite kind of castle.

For my big birthday, I am going to San Diego in a few months. I just want to find a hotel with a pool to relax, do some shopping and go to restaurants for dinner. I can't wait to go.

My folks always drove me back to Marquette University rather than make me take the train just so they could make that pit stop!

  • we went to the jelly belly factory last year but didn't go to the cheese castle, we weren't really sure what it was
  • I'm about to get cabin fever. We are having huge storms here, with tornado warnings this morning that had the sirens blaring. My neighborhood just had a direct lightning strike that took about my cable and Internet. WTF am I supposed to do now??? I guess I can break out a DVD and suck up all of my mobile data. Or clean the house (yeah, right!)

  • I REALLY don't want to spring clean . So much in fact, I got a groupon for a cleaning service to come out a week before my mom/sister arrive (timing is everything).  The last time I used a groupon for a cleaning service, the women canceled on me.....so we'll see.

  • @CharmedPam what is this cheese castle you speak of? H and I actually just took a nice weekend getaway this past weekend to VT and we went to the Cabot cheese factory... cute little tour but the best part was SO MANY samples!
  • I've never been!  I think @Mobkaz posted the picture though.  http://www.marscheese.com/

They sell cheese, breads, meats, etc.  I'm a sucker for meat and cheese.  FI loves jelly belly's.  His favorite candy.
