Guestbook gift that we don't want to use

Hi everyone,

My fiance's parents hosted a family get-together this last weekend, where my grandpa's girlfriend gave us a guestbook. I'm not really sure what to do with it because it's not our aesthetic, and we don't want to use it at the wedding. What would you do in this situation?

I'm also not really sure what to write in the thank you note. I don't want to say "we can't wait to use it for our wedding" when we're not planning on doing that.

I want to avoid doing anything rude, so please let me know what you think!

  • You can dispose of the book as you see fit.  I would just say something in the note along the lines of

    Dear Grandpa's GF,

Thank you so much for your lovely present.  We appreciate your generosity and look forward to seeing you at the wedding.  (More newsy text)

    Love,

    CaseyBoBasey

You don't have to tell her what you plan to do with the book.

@OliveOilsMom's idea is a lovely one, and @Jen4948's wording is spot-on.
  • Great ideas, thank you!
