I'm WFH today so I'll probably try to find some time to do a couple of chores. My mom is coming over for Happy Hour tonight so I always like my home to at least not be a complete wreck when she visits...at least this was made easy by the fact that I was forced into picking up everything and put it all away because of the new carpet.

This weekend we're celebrating Easter twice. Tomorrow we're driving 2 hours to this restaurant near the border of NC and GA to meet up with some old family friends for an early Easter lunch/dinner thing. So there's one day gone.

Sunday is Easter with my family. I'm providing the ham and I still need to find a recipe for my brussels sprouts. I think last time I did it with bacon, I just need to take five minutes on the Southern Living recipe to find it. I can't wait to see Callie all dressed up for her first Easter! She is going to be SO ADORABLE!!!

Good morning, labro!

H and I had a nice time at happy hour with our friends. A couple of them came with us to get one last drink, and it turned a little ugly when we got into a discussion about feminism. It ended up ok, until H and I got into it while we were walking home. It was an ugly, stupid fight, and I'm still crying intermittently this morning because we were having such a nice evening until it all went to sh!t.

Tonight I'm getting my haircut and then going to cheer on the Crossfitters doing the last night of the open. The workout is very hard on the shoulders, so I've decided not to do it. My tendinitis is already worse from the last four weeks, so it's not smart to make it worse just for a 20 minute workout.

Yes, tomorrow we'll go to VA to celebrate with H's family (cousins and aunt)

If you celebrate Easter, does your family have any special traditions?
H's family always has a party the Saturday before Easter. My family always goes to church but we usually don't go down to Richmond for that.

When you were a kid did you have a special Easter basket you used every year or did you get a new one each time?
We used the same Easter basket for many years, and there was always one 'big' present in there besides the candy. I remember one year I got a VERY cool pink jacket. I can picture it like it was yesterday, even though it was roughly 1982.

Hello!!! I'm here this morning, but it's a half day for me. I'm tired but not as bad as I thought I would be. Batman v. Superman was really good. They tried to cram a lot in so there were times it was confusing, but it was good overall. BF and I got a tad decked out.




I have to clean some stuff off my desk today, then right at noon BF and I are headed to the hospital to visit my cousin and the new baby. Not sure what's up for tonight after that. 

Tomorrow we are going to a family party with my dad's side which is always a good time. Sunday is Easter so see below.

Up until very recently my cousin's and I all did an egg hunt. Grown ass girls and all. They actually asked if we're doing it this year. I'm the oldest at 27 and the youngest will be 21 in a few months..

When you were a kid did you have a special Easter basket you used every year or did you get a new one each time?
New basket each time, that gradually got smaller each year.

Favorite Easter related candy?
Cadbury Eggs for sure.

Are you celebrating Easter this weekend? Yep! Twice...ugh I really wish this was a three day weekend so I had some time to recover.

If you celebrate Easter, does your family have any special traditions? Every year my mom used to dress us up in frilly little dresses, white shoes, and white socks with the frilly cuffs, and we'd all go to church. We don't go to church every Sunday like we used to anymore, or even for the big holidays...I think it's just too much of a crazy time at the churches we prefer in our area so we avoid them and recognize the day at home instead. Anyway, we always have an early dinner of ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, and deviled eggs. My mom made a beautiful coconut cake this year too!

When you were a kid did you have a special Easter basket you used every year or did you get a new one each time?
We had both. We each had a little wooden basket with our name painted on it that the Easter Bunny would fill with small treats. Then we usually had those cheap woven baskets that we would use for Easter hug hunts and stuff.
Favorite Easter related candy? JELLY BEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pretty much of all kinds. I love the traditional and I love the Starburst ones and I love the sweet and sour ones. They are all so yummy!

Your most exciting plans in April ARE..... Our Asheville vacation starts a week from SUNDAY!!!!!!! I cannot wait! We'll celebrate H's 30th birthday and go hiking, visit some breweries, and just have a good time! I am beyond excited!!!

Question for NEY - I still don't have a birthday present for H. I guess this vacation is kind of a gift to him....but it's coming out of our normal vacation budget sooo it wasn't like it was anything I saved up for especially with his birthday in mind. I have a bunch of silly and romantic cards to give him but that is basically it right now. Ugh. HELP ME!

@cu97tiger Sorry about the fight with your H... I hate that feeling of a lingering fight. I have to admit, I was in a mood yesterday too and found myself picking fights about nothing with H. I finally just shut up and went to sleep haha. Sending good vibes for April IVF!

Are you celebrating Easter this weekend? Nope... H and I don't live near our parents and it seems silly to do something together. We aren't super religious either so it would ring kind of false to me.

Favorite Easter related candy? hmmm, my mom gives me a caramel filled bunny still every year. I'm obsessed with necco wafers though, and I'm not sure if they still do this but they started coming out with necco eggs (like the conversation hearts) and I was always so happy that they weren't just limited to Valentine's day.

Your most exciting plans in April ARE..... huh. I actually don't think I have anything exciting planned yet! H is going away for a conference one weekend, so to be honest I'm looking forward to a weekend to myself!

As I said before, last night I was in a mood. H was at a school thing when I got home so I poured some wine and did some sewing, then made myself dinner and watched Bob's Burgers for awhile until he got home. This morning I made it to 6am spin and now I'm just hoping to make it through the day!

Nothing too exciting this weekend... I have to run 7 miles tomorrow, and do some deep cleaning in the apartment. H and I are hoping to make it down into the city to walk around... We'll see how the weather is.

@labro re gift for your H, have you seen Man Crate? They send a box with different themed gifts. They have stuff like BBQ or beer. I was thinking of doing one for BF's bday this year. I don't know your budget but they range in price.

@labro - Maybe you could get him a gift related to something you're doing on your vacation? Like order a t-shirt with Asheville on it (if he likes t-shirts). Or get him a travel guide of Asheville with some of the pages marked for things you're planning to do? Or if you're going to go to a bunch of breweries, get him a growler. I got this one for H and he gets compliments on it all the time!

@caseface5 The crate is a nice idea! I'll have to think about it....because I can at least keep it small ($$ wise) and hide the purchases in a larger purchase. H sees literally everything that happens on our cc and our accounts so it's soooo tough to be sneaky!

@cu97tiger That sounds like a good idea. We're planning to send him and another friend on a golf outing while we're there so I could always get him a new hat to wear.

@PamBeesly524 He's into a lot of things...mostly me. Nah the issue is he has hobbies like carving and woodcrafting but they are SO expensive for anything I'd buy him at this point so that's kind of out. I'm trying to save up for one tool as an anniversary gift in October. He likes to drink beer (we've done the beer making kit), he likes to play games, and like I said above, we'll be golfing. He's also interested in camping and we don't have a lot of camping supplies so it's a possibility.

Hey! Well I'm here but I didn't work Monday so I can't claim to be a 5-days-this-week person!

My question is does anyone have any healthy sauces? We meal plan but it's not the healthiest foods (lasagna, burgers). We each keep waking up with belly aches so we want to try switching to majority chicken/rice/veg. But I know myself and I hate dry or plain chicken. I need some type of sauce or I know I'll toss it and order pizza. So....you got any for me??

Are you celebrating Easter this weekend? No. Neither of our families are religious so it was never really a holiday for either of us. But my bff's family from Greece does Greek Easter with a lamb on the spit so I always celebrate that! It's not til May 1st this year.

@jenna8984 Nope! He is the WORST about gifts. When you ask him - he says I don't want anything!! Or "save your money". It drives me BONKERS!!!!!!!!! I just feel pressure because it's his 30th birthday and I feel like it should be special somehow.

Hmmm I will think on sauce recipes and get back to you! I know a lot of people will do something easy like a salad dressing sauce (italian for example) and just toss the chicken and veggies in that!

Last night I finally got to go to CrossFit. It was a tough workout but I definitely needed it. Callie was being SO CUTE last night. She is starting to link syllables together when she babbles and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Her little voice is so adorable. I love baby talk lol.

Today I plan to do my last Open workout for Crossfit. It looks like a tough one. Tonight we will probably cook dinner and chill.

Tomorrow DH works so I'm going to an early dinner up at the NC/GA boarder with some family friends.

Sunday is Easter at my parent's house and I'm making deviled eggs and fruit salad. I'm so excited for Callie's first Easter. I have such a cute outfit for her to wear! I'll AW it on Tuesday.

Monday Callie will be 6 months old! We are going to her appt that morning and then going to the aquarium. Callie loves animals so I'm really excited to see her reaction to all the fish!

Each year we do Easter baskets, go to church, and when we were little we did Easter Egg hunts which I plan to do for Callie once she is a little older. We also have a big Ham dinner with lots of food!

Yes! Mom had these beautiful wooden personalized baskets that we used each year. I got one for Callie from Etsy with her name on it! I'm so excited to start using it!

@labro why are H's so tough to buy for? My H is impossible... He rarely spends money on himself but somehow doesn't need anything when it comes time to get him a gift. I like @caseface5 and @cu97tiger's ideas. I also like @jenna8984's ideas of thinking back to what he's mentioned - I've actually started to keep a list of things H casually mentions for that reason!

Jenna - For chicken, someone on TK recommended hummus to me. You literally take a chicken breast and spread some hummus on it and then bake it - so easy and so delish! Also for chicken (not a sauce but good) we fry it in a pan and then spread some spinach and mozz. on top, then stick it in the over to melt everything.

After thinking about it more, I have to revise this....

So it wasn't religious, but growing up each year on Easter we'd go to my aunt & uncle's house. They were really just my parents' best friends but we called them aunt & uncle. They were huge rednecks and lived on a farm, so the dads would go off shooting guns, the moms would lay out in a lawnchair, and us kids would ride their goats around the barn! We would cook one or two of their chickens, and hot dogs for the kids. I vividly remember sitting in their kitchen and peeling my hotdogs of their casing, and then dipping them in mayo. hahahahah nasty. But we stopped doing it when I went off to college and that family moved to Utah so I haven't seen them in a decade.

Yes!  We're having lunch at my parents' house.  It'll be my parents, my bro, my grandma, and H and me.  My mom is making quail, pheasant, chicken, mashed potatoes, some veggie, and probably rolls.  My grandma is bringing pecan pie, my brother is bringing a dessert, and I'm going to make blueberry slab pie from some blueberries I froze from the farmer's market.  We'll go to church in the morning and then meet at lunch.

When we were little, we did egg hunts and Easter baskets.  My mom still gives small Easter baskets (normally a box the size of a Chinese takeout filled with candy).  We'll start some new traditions next year!

Ultrasound to check the placenta at the end of April.  Doing the nursery.  


The floors will be finished today!!!  We need to mop them before we move all the furniture back in, so that's what we'll work on today.  And by that, I mean I will supervise with some ice cream from the couch and my mom and H will mop.  The floors are gorgeous!!

Tomorrow will be more moving furniture and things back.  I got the OK from my doctor to go see Cinderella on stage with my mom, so I'll likely take a big nap on Saturday afternoon so I will feel up to going.  I hope it's good!

Sunday is Easter.  We're having our first Spanish Easter service separate from the English-speaking congregation.  H is doing most of it, I'll just sit at the piano and play.  Then it's an Easter feast at my parents' house and then we'll go home and bask in the glory of our new floors.  H's uncle is supposed to have a birthday party sometime this weekend, so we might squeeze in a visit to that, too.

I have BF's moms birthday dinner tonight so that's exciting... They always pick the best restaurants to eat at and I generally love birthdays so I can't wait. Sunday I'm working alllllll day and then I have no idea what plans are yet.

@twodimes THIS is the candy mansion!!! The entire downstairs is handmade candy and ice cream sundae bar. The upstairs is an apartment that my grandparents LIVED in while they were the general managers. So yea, I had sleepovers in the candy mansion until they retired!

@cocobellaf oh man your meal sounds awesome. I'd take quail and pheasant over ham any day! I love thighs even with skin, but H bitches that he only likes breasts so I'll probably get like 75% breasts.

@jenna8984 I like to use those premixed seasoning like Mrs. Dash or grill mates to season chicken. I eat it a LOT. My roommate likes to make chicken in the crock pot and keeps it really simple... Tomato sauce, or artichoke hearts, or pesto. It comes out awesome! 

@twodimes I need a recap of your stay with your MIL! I love your stories lol

@twodimes thanks for those recipes! I do like spinach. My problem is that the chicken at dinner is always moist and yummy but then when we bring it for lunch the next day the microwave just destroys it. I can't have lunchmeat so really salads & leftovers are my only lunch options.

@labro Sounds like a busy Easter weekend. But I'm sure seeing Callie in her Easter outfit will make up for all of the travel time on Saturday! And for the gift- my H watches our account too and I usually buy stuff on amazon. He keeps a wishlist and I buy off of there. Sorry, not too helpful! But an idea going forward for gifts.

Today is going to be pretty boring for me. It doesn't help that it's gloomy and cloudy outside. I just feel like staying on the couch all day. I won't though, since I need to get an oil change and my dad wants to do lunch. I didn't drop my car off to the autobody shop yesterday since they're closed all weekend and won't even work on my car and the loaner wasn't cleaned/ready for me. I'm going to go Monday after work. Hopefully the repair won't take too long.

Again weekend plans are not crazy. Tomorrow maybe NEY MA lunch? Not going to family Easter this year because it's my dad's birthday so we will just go out to eat with him.

Yesterday Raj escaped...again.  Damn meter reader left the gate open again.  I'm bitching at them this morning.  On the bright side, a group of teenage girls distracted him right away (he LOVES the ladies) and he didn't get far.  We also talked to the neighbor we share the gate with and they are replacing the lock on the gate on their side thankfully...we couldn't do it on our side because they need access to our backyard.  

This weekend will be fabulous!  H and I leave early tomorrow morning for Kohler and will have lunch there, relax in the room when it is ready, take a walk, eat a wonderful birthday dinner for H and then have some one-on-one time just chatting.  I may even have a sip of wine but then again maybe not...still undecided.

Sunday will be East brunch, a couples massage, a nap after all that, more walking and another dinner out in the evening.

Monday I took a half day so we can take our time coming back.  I'm so excited!

-Well since I was 5 I was singing in choirs so I would get up at the butt crack of dawn for Easter services...one started at 5 am so I'd be up by 3:30, see my Easter basket my grandmother made for me (always FULL of good stuff) and then head to church and sing pretty much all day until noon.  Came home and then got to eat a few pieces of candy in my basket.  My grandmother usually made ham and we ate that too.

When you were a kid did you have a special Easter basket you used every year or did you get a new one each time? I think my mom used the same one but it always had the best goodies in it. When you're a kid, it's not about the basket, it's about the contents!

Favorite Easter related candy? Any type of egg. Reese's eggs are my favorite, but I also love Cadbury eggs.
