Small cruise ships tips/suggestions?

We are planning our honeymoon in a small ship cruise, it is actually a package to Islands of New England. Never went on a small ship cruise before, it is our friends suggestion to take such a trip. Can anyone share their experience of small cruises and what to expect and what not? Also, if you could suggest some good places to visit in New Bedford, Block Island.

    If it is anything like the European riverboat cruises, expect a more casual atmosphere.  Sounds interesting!

    I dunno, I'm suspicious - one post and it's a link to a small company.   But in the case you don't have a vested interest in that link....if your friends suggested it, why don't you ask them their experience?  I hope you didn't just book something because someone mentioned it.
