Will added sleeves or straps look okay with my dress?

Hello! So I have purchased my gown, and I absolutely adore everything about it except for the fact it does not have sleeves or straps. This wouldn't bother me at all, except for its strongly encouraged in our religion and I wasn't even thinking about that factor when we went shopping. Mainly, if possible, I would like to add something to make it more modest (to please everyone and put my mind at ease)...as long as it looks natural and not out of place. I have my first fitting this month so I haven't talked to them yet, but was hoping other brides have had good experience in adding either sleeves or straps to their dresses. With mine being a sweetheart neckline and a thicker lace, I just don't know what would look right. Any ideas ladies? I am so torn.

Straps would be an easy addition.  Consider halter style straps - they stay up without fussing with them all day.

There are lace shrugs available to cover your arms during the ceremony.

I would think a seamstress would be able to add straps. I'm not sure if you require any alterations, but if so, you might be able to get some matching fabric from that. If not, you could see if the store will sell you extra fabric. I think if you could replicate the tiering design in the straps, that would look fantastic.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! Replicating the tier design would be awesome or even using the same fabric. Because the fabric looking completely out of place and not blending well with the dress is what I'm most worried about.

I think a shrug is a great idea. You can wear it for the ceremony, then remove it if you like for the reception, and you wouldn't need alterations. Though, if you want straps, I don't think it would be difficult to do.

I have looked at some shrugs/jacket type things online but haven't had too much luck in finding something that I like or that would match. Trying on will be key because certain lace type fabrics are hard to tell online and I don't want a jacket to take away from the dress.

May I suggest finding a shrug in a different fabric, such as satin?

I agree, find a lace shrug that matches your lace dress will be difficult and I wouldn't buy one without trying it on with your dress. But if you switch the fabric to something that would still match, that will save you some hassle.

I know it's not exactly the same as your dress, but this shrug is a different material than the dress and still looks good.
