Etsy

Hi guys,
Do you have any favorite Etsy shops? I'm not very creative or very DIY but my Dad turns 60 in June & I want to throw him a surprise party. Currently Loki g for themes on Etsy & Pinterest. I could stay on both sites for days! TIA

Re: Etsy

  • There are so many sellers and shops on etsy, its hard to know where to begin.  The most important part is looking at the reviews of the sellers.

I have purchased many things for my wedding, a surprise party for H, and most recently my friend's baby shower.  My last purchase was for a cake topper, hand made from fondant and dried.  I was a little nervous about the purchase, but the reviews all were great.  In the end, the cake topper was perfect!  It was packed very securely and I was even given a small kit to make any repairs to it, if something cracked.

So bottom line, just do your homework on the sellers.  If they are starting out without many reviews, I would just convo the person to get a sense of their dedication to the shop and see if their deadline is realistic.  For example, the cake topper I ordered was made to order.  I convo'd with the seller first, to ensure that the cake topper would have sufficient drying time prior to shipping (and since the seller was in Canada) and have enough time for shipping.  I ended up getting it 2 weeks earlier than anticipated!

  • I don't have any shops on Etsy that I regularly purchase from. But when I do buy things from there I make sure to pay close attention to the reviews, the location of the seller, and their estimated turnaround time on orders if they provide it.

There are lots of sellers on Etsy who are overseas. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but ordering things from other countries often takes much longer to arrive. Just weigh your options depending on how much time you have before the party.
